purple box is ugly

Maybe allow users to change the color of the box? The purple is ugly and doesn't follow your brand logo colors... why purple? No wonder so many people want to hide it.

    You can paint it whatever disgusting color you like.

    For example, with Ghostery for Firefox 5.3.1, if you create a userContent.css file containing

    body > div[title="Click to dismiss alert bubble"], body > div[title="Click to dismiss alert bubble"] > div:first-of-type { background-color: #993300 !important; }

    and drop that in a "chrome" folder inside your profile folder, you'll have orange alert bubbles after you restart Firefox. (Adjust as needed for non-English locales.)

    If you don't want to manipulate files directly, you can install the Stylish extension.

    It used to be possible to do something similar with Chrome, but Release 33 removed support for User StyleSheets and Custom.css. See https://code.google.com/p/chromium/is...
