Reddit's sneaky tracker PNGs

Please disable Reddit's tracking workarounds. They fetch 1x1 PNGs with tracker URLs from pixel.redditmedia.com -- I've seen:
http://pixel.redditmedia.com/pixel/of...=
http://pixel.redditmedia.com/pixel/of...=

Thanks!

PS: it seems redditmedia.com is already blacklisted; maybe change that to *.redditmedia.com?

  • Are you finding these on any site other than reddit.com? (If not, this could be considered first party. Plus, we're extremely reluctant to include anything that only applies to one site.)

If something is "blacklisting" redditmedia.com for you, it's not Ghostery. Note that most decent browsers offer some sort of built-in mechanism for blocking images from arbitrary domains that doesn't require installing any extensions. In Chrome, it's buried in the [advanced] Privacy settings. Find the Content settings for Images, and click Manage exceptions. Then tell it to block pixel.redditmedia.com. In Firefox, look under Content preferences (not Privacy) for an Exceptions button next to Load images automatically.

You would not want to block *.redditmedia.com; that would ruin the user experience for sites that depend on *.thumbs.redditmedia.com, e.g.
    www.memefive.com
    www.quickmeme.com
    videogamesandnews.com
