Request: Adjust bug count for blocking.

Right now on this getsatisfaction.com page, my little ghostery icon has the number 3, but since I have blocking "on", it shows all 3 crossed out when I click the icon. I'd rather the icon said 0 in that case or 0/3.

    Hey TLC,

Thanks for the idea, and thanks for using Ghostery. This is something we've thought about, but I'll admit it goes against our philosophy in a way.

At Ghostery, we're all about letting people know what 3rd party scripts are interacting with their browsers as they use the Internet. One of our core tenants is that we need to educate our users about who is gathering what information. After this is done, we give them the option to block the scripts these gatherers use.

Also, a lot of our users like feeling empowered by the knowledge that they are watching the people trying to watch them, and if we didn't say how many bugs we found on a site we may be taking away key functionality!

We are constantly working on the UI, however, and input like this is very important to us. It provides us with a way to reevaluate Ghostery and to respond directly to user concerns. If you can think of more suggestions definitely let us know!

    Thanks very much,

    Adam

  • Hi tlc,

If you enabled blocking, and everything that you wanted to block got blocked, the icon turns green. Whitelisted sites and bugs (whitelisting bugs is coming in the next few days) should be accounted for here. Otherwise, the icon is red.

The idea being is that if blocking is enabled, green means everything went according to your preferences. Bugs can still slip through sometimes due to Chrome's incomplete blocking capabilities.

The number in the icon for now is always the number of bugs/trackers found.

Let me know if something is off here.

    Thanks for using Ghostery!

  • I didn't know about the red icon. It seems I had "Enable bug blocking" checked but not the list below it...

  • Ghostery 3.0.0 is here! We've implemented Chrome's new detection/blocking technology and it looks great!

Chrome 17 and up required; Chrome 18 and up recommended.

    See http://purplebox.ghostery.com/?p=1016... for more information.
