I found the scribblelive.com widget on reuters.com (e.g. http://live.reuters.com/Event/Nobel_P...), this includes a counter pixel with tracking cookie.
I didn't find any more examples on other domains, but this very much looks like 3rd party tracking.

1There's a whole bunch like this, e.g.
live.ajc.com
live.aljazeera.com
live.boston.com
live.chicagotribune.com
live.cnet.com
live.freep.com
live.nationalpost.com
live.nydailynews.com
live.seattletimes.com
live.stltoday.com
live.cbc.ca
live.independent.co.uk
...all of which are aliases.
It looks first-party to me, even though the various bits and pieces are parceled out to CDNs like Akamai and Cloudfront.

all these include a tracking pixel at e.g. http://counter.scribblelive.com/?page...

Scriblelive is one of those widgets that we shy away from blocking, like YouTube. Its been sitting in my monitoring bin for a while and I'm not sure its worth adding just their counter beacon. I'll need some more thoughts on this one.
