Secure Pages
I have been using Ghostery as an add on to Firefox for quite awhile. Recently it seems to be interfering with the lock indicating a secure web page. When loading secure pages initially the lock shows but then changes to the triangle indicating an only partially secure page. When I disable Ghostery and load the same page the lock is present throughout. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for using Ghostery!
Can you send me some examples so I can take a look?
Which version of Firefox and Ghostery are you running?
Talk with you soon. -
-
I am using Ghostery 5.4.2 and Firefox 35.0.1
It happens on any website where I have to submit a password e.g. AOL
Steve-
I'm not seeing this.. My Banking site and email all have the lock... can you try updating your Firefox to 36? maybe its something there?

I'll try. But I believe that I updated another computer to Firefox 36 last night and was having the same issue.
-
if you can send me a screenshot of the nav bar with what you are seeing that would be most helpful. Do you have any other add ons active?

OK.. I see it.. It's the ScorecardResearchBeacon tracker. if you whitelist that tracker on that page the lock works.. Not sure why that is happening.. I'll submit a ticket.

I have a ticket in for this to be researched. Thanks for the examples

Thanks for your help. In the meantime if I disable Ghostery for some log-ins does that mean that somebody could steal a password? Not sure what those trackers do exactly.
-
I doubt any of those trackers are steeling passwords.. 98% of the time they just want to serve you an ad relevant to who you are and what you browse.

Hello Pete.
If it helps, I'm having this problem too. Try https://www.paypal.com.
This exhibits the behaviour Steve described (green padlock while loading, then grey exclamation mark), unless I whitelist Google Analytics and Omniture Adobe Analytics.
I have another browser that was still using Ghostery 5.4.1 which did not have the problem. I updated it to 5.4.2 and the problem appeared.
I wonder if it has something to do with Firefox not liking the surrogate script replacement? I'm on Firefox 36.0, Linux Mint and Ghostery 5.4.2.-
Thanks for the additional info! I'll add it to the ticket for our dev team

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Ghostery on Firefox breaks SSL.
Recently, when I visit https sites with Ghostery the connection shows as "Connection partially encrypted".
I'm on Ubuntu 14.04 with Firefox 36.0 and Ghostery 5.4.3. I've reproduced this with only the Ghostery addon enabled. If I pause blocking in Ghostery and reload the SSL-encrypted page (for example: Github), the connection shows as fully secure. If I resume blocking and reload it's partially encrypted again.
I notice under Firefox's Media just one resource that doesn't start with https:// , namely:
resource://firefox-at-ghostery-dot-com/ghostery/data/images/gear.svg
Not sure if that's actually related to the problem. -
