url disappears from Firefox url field as soon as page loads
After installing Ghostery on Firefox 28.0 (winXP) I find that the Firefox url field is often blanked out as soon as the page loads. For example I might do a Google search, then click on one of the hits... url field is filled in, page presented, url field blanked. Click TinyURL and it says no url to shrink. But, bookmark the page and the address IS bookmarked. If I click on another tab in Firefox, then click on the original tab, the url is now displayed. Annoying.

I do use Ghostery on a Windows 7...on Chrome mostly....
I added Ghostery on my Firefox under the Standard Account....but have not yet "played" around with it much...

Well.. the issue with trackers on this page is.. this is a 3rd party forum.. We have asked that they remove the trackers but they have not been responsive.
Can you try creating a new FFX profile to see if the problem persists there? Don't delete your current one so you can go back after this quick test. -

The problem seems to have gone away, or at least I haven't noticed it since I discovered that I appeared to be infected with the "conduit" virus, and I got rid of "conduit" (I hope) yesterday morning.
Strangely, MalwareBytes didn't find "conduit", I ended up downloading a special program, as specified
in these instructions I found on the internet...
http://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-c...
I ended up following those instructions on 2 successive days, because symptoms reappeared.
So, it's possible "conduit" was/is the culprit, not Ghostery. The problem appeared about the same time I installed Ghostery, which also happened to be the first day I'd used my "Chrome" browser in months. I had installed Ghostery on Firefox a day or two prior to using (and installing Ghostery on) Chrome. -

Nope, I was wrong, the problem hasn't gone away, I still lose the url field in Firefox when I link to a new page from a link in a webpage, or from a bookmark in my listing of Bookmarks (Bookmarks>Show All Bookmarks). Url address shows briefly while the page loads, then I have a url field containing the greyed-out words: "Search or Enter Address"
If I then click on "Bookmarks>Bookmark This Page", the url address reappears in the url field.
Still annoying. -
