Version questions and where do I get the latest (issues with doing so, see below)

I'm leaving the first several paragraphs as preliminary, and for verification that my analysis on my original question is correct.

Why has Ghostery stopped letting me block some trackers?

Here's what happens. It shows that it hasn't blocked all the trackers on a page. So I open the popup with the red/blue buttons and block the ones that are showing blue, i.e. make them red. When I reload the page, they are still not blocked and are back to blue again. This has happened on multiple pages.

Example: http://inthesetimes.com/article/17723... - blocked 7 of 12. Unblocked were Reddit Widget, StumbleUpon Widget, Taboola Widget, Twitter Button Widget, and Typekit by Adobe Widget. Shifted 'em all to red, reloaded, right back to blue.

This is on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, Ghostery version 2.9.6, Firefox version 13.0. And a new computer, although I can't see why that would cause Ghostery to refuse to block things I set to block, especially just some and not all.

Oooooookaaaaaaay. I see from other questions that this site suggested that the above is due to a limitation of the number of items that can be tracked. So I tried to get the latest version from Ghostery's own site and there was a "connection problem." So I went to the Mozilla website (I had first gotten Ghostery from within Firefox), which claimed to offer 5.4.3, but when I install it it says 2.7.2 and has a lot shorter tracking list than 2.9.6.

What is going on? What is the actual latest version and where can I get it? Thanks.

    Hi Vicki,

    Thanks for using ghostery!

So you clicked on 5.4.3 and 2.9.7 installed? I can't replicate that.. Go to ghostery.com/download and click on the firefox version.

However.. this is now.. I see you are using Firefox 13.. Current version requires Firefox 21 and higher. 2.9.6 is the highest version of Ghostery that will work with that version. If you don't update Firefox, you can't update Ghostery.

    Please let me know.

  • Interesting.

I installed what I thought was the latest version of Firefox when I got the new computer. It just offered to update to 13.0.something. Or maybe it was 36.0.something, which seems to be the latest version.

Sorry to bother you because I unknowingly got an older version of Firefox. I'm guessing that's why I got offered a different version of Ghostery.

I haven't the slightest idea how I got an old version thinking it was a new one (I *thought* I got it straight from Mozilla), and I'm not going to even try to recreate it - I'll just get the latest version, or at least get an older version knowingly...... ;->

    Thanks.
