    Hi Peter,

Thanks for reaching out to Ghostery!

There is a settings file within the extension that has your tracker settings saved. You can do an export of them from the advanced tab.

Are you looking for something specific that I can help with?

  • The exact mechanism used, internal format, and location vary among different browsers; the export/import feature converts to and from a common representation. The list of blocked trackers is not stored within the extension itself — that's never modified (except by the browser, when installing, uninstalling, or upgrading).

  • Hello

Thanks for the answers and sorry for my bad english :-)

I dont want to do a real backup or read the filter file ...

What i mean is where the filter settings get stored in the running program.

    I work with Firefox.

    Two Reasons:

    1:
Most i surf with a Sandbox but i want to keep the Filtersettings so when i know in witch file the settings are stored i can told the Sandbox to copy it to the Real system and dont have to do a export/import every time i use the browser.

    2:
A have a lets say "clean" setup of a Firefox Portable Browser only standart installation and addons. (updates)

I work with a copy of that from time to time a delete the copy and make a new one but i want to keep (only) the addon settings.

I think its the best way to always have a "clean" browser.

So when i konw witch file i only have to copy it ...

    Suggestions for the Future:

I think the best way is to store the Filtersettings in a single standalone file so its easyer to manage ...

    or

Some addons like Adblock Plus have the future to work with subsriptions i means the load a extern file with settings.

Now Ghostery have the import/export future so i think i must by "easy" to take the code and rewrite it and make a new future so a user has the option set a lets call ist filter file.

The mechanism is the same like import/export but every time ghostery gets loaded it do a import of the given filter file automatic.

If its possible when firefox close ghostery to a automatic export.

    Thank You

  • Ghostery for Firefox is built using Mozilla's Add-on SDK. All of its persistent settings are saved in simple storage.

Support for the Add-on SDK is built into Firefox. There is no choice of file location; it's always

    <path-to-profile>/jetpack/<addon-id>/simple-storage/store.json

    Ghostery's <addon-id> is firefox@ghostery.com.

All other extensions using the simple storage API work in a similar fashion.
