I’m disappointed.

Why I'm uninstalling yoiur software.

Hello Ghostery:
~ I just wanted to inform you that I installed the " 'Internet Explorer' version" of your software on March 11th, `14 - and I am UN-installing it on the following day, March 12th. I am primarily doing this for the following reasons:
(1) EVERY TIME I start-up Internet Explorer, your "Walkthrough Page" automatically opens-up in another "Tab". I can find no way to stop this behavior. This routine alone would be annoying enough; but ALSO neither the "Continue 'arrow' " nor any of the "links" on that Page actually work. Similarly, the "link" to the "Configuration Wizard" on your Website's "Options" Page doesn't work, either.
(2) When I "click-on" the little "Ghostery icon" in my upper icon-bar, about 3/4 of the time I don't even get a read-out of the "cookies", etc.. I simply get a "Not Scanned" designation, on an otherwise blank page. Many of the other features on that "icon" or on your Homepage don't seem to work. I had done a "browser search" for the topic "Ghostery reviews", and I see various "comments" about how "glitchy" your software is reputed to be, or what limited usefulness it has.
(3) Finally, one "comment" that I saw on a "reviews" website explained that (reputedly) your company sells the information that you gather from your product, to other third-party companies; so in-essence your company (reputedly) DOES the SAME ACTIVITY from which what you claim to be protecting your subscribers.
~ If I could find an actually nicely workable software much like Ghostery, from a company that seemed forthright -, I would very much be interested in that. HOWEVER, your company doesn't seem to provide such a service.

  • Technical 'reasons' aside, your point '3' is an old chestnut. Suggest you research more and read the privacy statements before jumping to conclusions. Personally I do see them as 'forthright' in that they don't hide who they are and they don't appear to hide what they do, and don't do... But don't, for goodness sake, base your decision on ONE comment on a reviews site!! If I did that I'd never buy a d*mn thing on Amazon!!

On a 'technical' note they only way you share data with them is if you have the 'Ghostrank' option checked. Even then it's anonymous. I'll accept this as the tool itself is highly effective, but I choose not to use Ghostrank.

You might also try a decent browser... ;-)

    Hi Charlie,

Thanks for trying Ghostery and for the feedback..

As far as 1 and 2 are concerned.. we are experiencing issues with IE extension that we are working on fixing. It's unfortunately out of our hands so we are working with the vendor to get this fixed quickly.. related topic here:

As far as # 3... Ghostery never collects data about you. If you opt-in to Ghostrank, you send us anonymous information about the trackers you see. That is the data we use to make Ghostery a free product. Here is a great post that explains all about this: https://purplebox.ghostery.com/post/1...

If you would like to discuss further, please feel free to email me directly at pete@ghostery.com
