I’m frustrated

More ads on FB, Youtube, and twitter

As of right now with all updates applied to ghostery I am seeing more marketing ad and commercials then I had been. This is with chrome and safari mainly but more are cropping up for FF too. I see ads on FB, Youtube, and twitter. They were being blocked and I never had to deal with them but now it isnt working. What gives? I am even having to watch ads on youtube when those were being blocked for me. I want to go back to the old ways.

Also I hate that there is no real cookie blocking for chrome and safari. Why is this? Please make it happen.

  • Based on the examples you cite, I suspect you're seeing an increase in first-party advertising on sites where you've intentionally signed up, and agreed to their terms and conditions of use. Ghostery is looking for non-consensual activity, not stuff where you've given explicit permission.

These sites provide their own preference mechanisms, which work regardless of what browser you use, and don't require installation of any additional software, e.g.:

Ghostery can't do anything beyond what the browsers themselves enable. They're not the same. Ghostery does more and works better with Firefox, because it's by far the most capable (and reliable) product out there. Granted, Chrome, Safari, and Opera aren't exactly horrible. The changes in Ghostery 5 are largely about delivering a more-or-less consistent user interface, so there only needs to be one set of language translations. You're not going to see 100% feature parity; it's just not possible.

In Chrome, you might want to open chrome://settings/content and see if "Block third-party cookies and site data" is checked. (The corresponding setting is the default in Safari.)

I would have thought the same; however, all of them have changed their tos and conditions well before this began. These sites already had their stuff in line and online and things were working for me. Or shall I say as I wanted them to work.

If anything, It is my opinion that it could be another service like adblock or something similar that was blocking it and no longer is. I have all of my browsers set to block things as well as I can and still function decently. Thanks for the thoughts though.
