Is there a problem with the number of bugs displayed on the icon?

I am not sure if the behaviour of Ghostery in Safari has changed recently but I have just noticed the number of bugs blocked as shown on the Ghostery icon is not always correct.

I thought it always used to show the number of bugs on the page being viewed but I have noticed over the last couple of days that the number doesn't change when I select another tag. In fact it often doesn't change even if I reload a page. As far as I can tell, the number is only updated when an existing page is reloaded if the number of bugs on that page is higher than the number displayed before.

However, if I have 10 tabs open with different sites on them and reload them all the number displayed ends up as the number of bugs on the page with the most. Running through the tabs and reloading them again results in no change. Only opening a new tab or a new page in an existing tab changes it (assuming the number of bugs on that page is different to the number displayed before of course) whether higher or lower.

    Hi inoneear,

    The number in the badge should change when you switch tabs (unless the tabs have the same number of found bugs).

    There is currently a limitation in Ghostery for Safari where as long as you keep a tab open, reloading the tab (or opening the same URL in a different tab) will only add to the list of found bugs on that URL, and not start fresh with each reload.

    However, if you see the same count for different URLs, that could be a problem. See what the bug findings popup shows (click Ghostery's toolbar button). Does it show the same bugs for all your tabs?

    The limitation you mention is not the behaviour I am seeing.

    Let me give you some examples of pages I have open now. The icon is showing "3" while I am editing this and if I click on the icon it lists 3 bugs found ... all well and good.

    Now I go to a tab I have open on my yahoo.jp mail account. The icon still has a 3 (white 3 in a red circle) but if I click on it the message is "no bugs found". I reload that page and it still shows 3 but clicking it shows no bugs found.

    If I go to the tab containing BBC iplayer, it still shows 3 and clicking on it shows it has found just one (google-analytics). I reload and there is no change.

    If I go to the tab with a page on the www.chefandbrewer.com site, it still shows 3 but opening the list shows Ghostery has found more than 3 (google analytics, yahoo analytics, facebook connect and addthis). I reload the page and the number displayed is now correct at "4".

    Back to the getsatisfaction site for the forum and the icon is now showing "4" but of course the list of bugs found has not got any longer.

    The only thing I can do to reduce the number displayed to anything less than "4" is to open a new URL which has less than 4 bugs found.

    I have just restarted my machine and the problem has gone away. The number now changes correctly every time. I will add to this thread if it reoccurs during the next few days.
