Opening up Gigpress for modifications?

Seen a lot of questions and requests about a) adding fields (such as Gig Title) and b) multiple templates. How about opening Gigpress up for modifications, the same way WordPress itself is open via functions.php?

A similar option already exists and works brilliantly, ie the custom templates. Modifications here are protected from updates, while giving the developers freedom and control.

Could something similar not be implemented via a gigpress-functions.php file, to be copied into the main theme directory? Might people be able to override stuff they don't need, and/or add simple bits?

This would probably make things a little bit more complicated, including support, but it seems (if at all possible) like a cleaner solution than forking the whole plugin in order to extend it to a more general events tool (which I've seen as a suggestion here and there).

Could that be a way of keeping the core of the plugin plain and simple, while giving people the opportunity to tweak it?

Hey Michael, that's a great idea, but at this point, I can't see having time to implement this. A major overhaul, that's for sure. I'll keep it mind for the future, but for now I plan on working on smaller improvements incrementally.
