add records in table

There are some tables were the plus sign is enabled and I can add a new row in the records, but there are other tables where the plus sign is disabled. Why is that happening? How can I add records in those tables?

DataGlass can only edit records that contain a primary key that is used to uniquely identify the record (usually called "ID" or something along those lines). Also, you need to have permission to be able to edit records in the table.

  • There's something more going on here. I've yet to be able to add or edit rows, even with tables that just have a less than 20 records and most definitey have a single-column primary key defined. In the table view, the add button is always disabled, and in the row detail view, there simply is no edit button.

I've checked with three different database servers, all running some post-5.0 version of MySQL. The common link is that all three are connected through the built-in SSH functionality - don't know if that could cause a problem. Any other ideas?

    Here are a few possibilities:

    1. While it is doubtful that connecting via SSH alone could cause the problem, bear in mind that connecting over SSH often causes MySQL to interpret the source host differently. Specifically, people often SSH tunnel into MySQL through the same machine that serves the database, which means that your connection is then seen as coming from "localhost", which may have different permission sets in MySQL's (somewhat arcane) permissions system. You might want to try different names for the MySQL host (e.g., try each of "127.0.0.1", "localhost", the machine's actual IP address, and the machine's actual name).

    2. If the connections were created in an earlier version of DataGlass (e.g., before version 4.0), you may need to create a new connection to the database to be able to edit.

    3. You might also want to open the query editor and go into the Custom SQL Query part at the bottom and enter some SQL statement that should fail (like "CREATE TABLE DATAGLASS TEST (ID INT)") and then run it and take a screenshot of the resulting error message. If you post it here, it might give us a hint as to the source of the problem.

  • According what you guys say here i ́m in deep trouble. My Database consists in 3 sections: 1) "cajas " for Clients; 2) "Gastos" for Income/outcome; 3) "Rubros" to describe type of expense taken (example: Cement bags, sand, etc) In adition there are 2 relations with referential integrity between 1) and 3) and 2) being innecesary to place a primary key. This brings me a problem: the most important section "gastos" doesn ́t allow me to add records. I tryed adding a a primary key in date column, that allowed me to add records but not to repeat neither client or expense taken, rendering my batabase totally uselles. I must add that i ́m using it for years now without any problems till now. Thanks for the help.
