Pre-defined field lengths of text fields doubled in DataGlass Access.

The field length of a text field defined in MS Access is doubled by DataGlass Access. For example: if the field length of a text field in MS Access is 2, DataGlass Access allows 4 characters in that field.

Thanks for the report. This isn't always the case with all fields (note that the field limit on the "CategoryName" field of the "Categories" able of the "Sample Database" included in DataGlass is accurate). We believe that this might have to do with the encoding used by the table: specially, if the table uses UTF-16, then the field limit is reported in terms of bytes rather than valid characters. Does your table use UTF-16 encoding?

In any case, we'll work on figuring out a way to detect this scenario and set the appropriate limit on entry characters.
    • I have been messing with this, but I can't find any UTF-16 / UTF-8 setting in tables or options in MS Access. What I did was creating a brand new database (in both 2003 and 2010) and created tables in there. I set a field to 'text' and the field size to 2. Regardless of what I try, in DataGlass Access I end up with twice the number of characters. So, there's no import files involved.

I wish I could give you more information.
