3 monthly envelopes

Hi there

I have a few quarterly bills and would like to include a weekly fill to ensure envelops are filled when bill is due. I noticed for all other options (weekly, monthly, yearly...) the tracking vertical line on the green bar is activated however this is not the case for the 3 monthly green bars. Have I entered data incorrectly that it is not showing?

Thanks

I hope I understand your question accurately. It's been my experience that only envelopes that match your primary budget cycle will have tracking bars. It sounds like you've appropriately added a "tri-monthly" envelope under More Envelopes so that you'll have those dollars available when they're needed. Since your Primary envelopes are likely on a monthly cycle, the additional envelopes won't have a progress bar. You'll also notice that the envelope message is different; instead of "Great, you're ahead by 37.12!" you'll see something like "You've saved 48.00 so far.  You have 29.50 more to fill!" Hope this helps!

Hi Lyndell,

What Tiffany says above about the lines in the Envelope bars is mostly correct, but I wanted to go into a little more detail to clarify the exact details. In short, Envelopes that are set to specific dates will show the tracking bars / progress lines, and the other Envelopes will not.

What that means more specifically is that any Weekly, Biweekly, Semi-Monthly, Monthly, or Annual (with Due Date) Envelopes will show the bars, and any Every 2 Months, Every 3 Months, Every 6 Months, Annual (without Due Date), and Goal Envelopes will appear without the bars.

The reason for this is that the first group of Envelopes allows you to choose the dates that they operate on. For example, since it sounds like you might be on a Weekly primary budget period, you'll notice there's an option to choose the day of the week to start your Weekly Envelopes. This is similar for Monthly Envelopes (where you can choose the starting date), and the other Envelopes in that first group.

The Envelopes in the second group on the other hand have more arbitrary periods. Every 2 Months Envelopes will prompt you to save to your specific budgeted amount every 2 months, but are not tied to a specific period of two months. The same goes for the other Envelopes in that group. That's why these Envelopes don't show the progress lines.

Hope that helps!
