Add a Check/Uncheck All option at the top of the Cleared column.

On the Account Reconciliation page, I would like a Check/Uncheck All checkbox at the top of the Cleared column. When the balance isn't zero, I have to uncheck all the transactions in order to proceed with reconciling with my bank statement. Having to uncheck every row manually seems silly, when a simple Uncheck All checkbox or link would do. Thanks!

btw, here's what I've been running in the browser console to uncheck all the boxes:
$("input[type='checkbox']").prop("checked", false);

In my opinion, the whole reconciliation process in GoodBudget is rather complicated for the typical user.  For me, I simply prefer to reconcile my accounts myself.

My personal suggestion is actually very much like the one above.

My suggestion is to also allow the user to manually mark individual transactions as cleared.  That would totally eliminate the requirement for manual reconcilers to use a matching paper checkbook register to mark individual transactions as cleared .

Also, if individual transactions could be marked as cleared manually in GoodBudget it would open up a powerful possibility for GoodBudget.  It would be very easy for GoodBudget to simply list a "Cleared Running Balance".

After all matching transactions in the bank statement are marked as cleared in GoodBudget, If the user's bank statement's ending balance matches GoodBudget's "Cleared Running Balance", it would indicate, at a glance, that all is well, necessitating no other reconciliation process, at all!

Just my 2 cents...

Hi John,

If I'm understanding you correctly, Goodbudget already does exactly what you're asking.

You can manually mark transactions as 'Cleared' by checking the green check mark under the Status column on the website. You'll see that Status column while on the Home page, or by drilling down into a specific Account.

When you drill down to a specific Account, you'll see 'Cleared Balance' that directly correlates to the running balance of the transactions that you've cleared so far in that Account. Here's a screen of one of my test Households so you can see what I'm referring to.

Does that sounds like what you're asking?

You're right that with this process of clearing, folks don't have to reconcile at all! But, if desired, folks can reconcile, and that process is the final step in confirming that all of the data that's been recorded in GB is accurate to real life.

Thanks!

Thank you, Karisa.  I hadn't noticed that the status box was added a while back.  That will now eliminate all need for a paper checkbook register for me.  It's a happy day! :-)

* The only suggestion that I have left in this topic then is for GoodBudget to list a simple "running cleared balance" somewhere on the screen where one is looking at the transactions.  That would then indicate to the user if all is well, or not.

* Now since I have not ever used the status box, I have years of transactions that would need to be checked to catch up to present.  That is also where the requested check all/none button above is really needed.  Due to this, I would like to "plus 1" the suggestion above, but I don't see the option right now.  Maybe my eye sight is just getting worse.

Thanks so much, Karisa.  You guys and gals rock! :-)

Hi John,

Sorry you missed that feature, but glad you're able to use it now!

Currently, there is 'Cleared Balance' listed on the Accounts Details. Check out the screen below if you're not sure where it is. As you marked transactions as 'Cleared', your 'Cleared Balance' will move up or down depending on the balance of the transaction that you're clearing. So, in that sense, it works as a running balance.

Finally, Jamie requested a 'Select All / Deselect All' option specifically for the Reconcile page. But, it sounds like you want a feature that allows you to bulk apply a Cleared Status (not a reconciled Status) to multiple transactions at once when you're not reconciling. I've added your request to our tracker.

Thanks!

Hi Karisa,

Since I don't have accounts turned on, I can't drill down to the account in question to check the listed "running cleared balance".  Turning on Accounts offers its share of trials and tribulations for those who have never used the Accounts tab.

A simple running balance on the transaction screen would be really helpful, for those who don't have "Accounts" turned on.

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for posting! I've added your suggestion for our features tracker for future consideration. I will say that we aren't working on something like this at this time, but I'll be sure to update the thread if and when we do.

If you'd like to stay updated on what we are working on, feel free to check out our Roadmap

Thanks!
