Can we have a running balance for Unallocated, just like Accounts and Envelopes do?

I keep a spreadsheet with financial forecasts, and one of the items I reconcile is the Unallocated balance.  Every month I have discrepancies that I can trace back after spending some time on it.  This month there is about a $30 difference, not in my favor, that I can not figure out without going all out and download & reconcile from the start.  A running balance would be very helpful, because then I would be able to see when I started deviating, or if a past reconciled balance has now changed.

Are you asking for a line-by-line "Unallocated" ledger? The daily value is listed at the top of the web version above Monthly envelopes, and it's replicated (at least on iOS) at the bottom of the envelopes page. It doesn't seem possible in the current software to go back to a particular date though, so I assume that's what you're requesting (since I know you use GB extensively!) and I can see how that might be helpful.

Hi Telt1910,

Thanks for posting! We don't have plans to add a running balance to the Unallocated Envelope at this time. That's because Unallocated wasn't intended to be a place where the accounting or reconciling happened. The Unallocated balance comes from the Accounts you're tracking in Goodbudget, so any discrepancy that's expressed in Unallocated is most likely coming from an Account, and there are running balances there.

Can you let me know more about how you use Unallocated? It sounds like it's a place you often check when you spot issues?

Thanks again!

In my case, I use both bi-weekly and monthly periods in Goodbudget.  My paycheck is bi-weekly, and my weekly expenses (groceries, gas, lunches) get filledx2 when I get paid.  The money for the monthly and other expenses stay in Unallocated, and at the beginning of the month they get allocated to their envelopes at a monthly rate. I also receive a monthly payment from my X2B, which can come in late.  In my spreadsheet, I have these misaligned items as a budget forecast, going out about a year.  This allows me to add future changes as I encounter them (phone paid off, sewer bill going up, etc.) and keep the budget up to date.  I refer to this spreadsheet when I do the monthly fill. I reconcile the Unallocated balance in Goodbudget with what my spreadsheet thinks it should be.  I am always off by a few pennies here and there, due to paycheck fluctuations and those 'big' interest payments on the bank accounts.  The Unallocated balance plays the same role in my spreadsheet as in GB. To make sure there are enough funds to cover the next set of envelope fills.  Hence the importance of the reconciliation.
As a workaround, I think I will create my own 'Unallocated' envelope (name TBD) and keep the GB Unallocated at zero at all times.
