My primary pay period is changing from every two weeks to semi-monthly. How do I change designation of my primary pay period in GoodBudget (on Windows)? Is there anything else I need to be careful about when making this change?

Thanks, Alan

I believe that if you go into Add/Edit Envelopes, you can change your main envelopes by using the drop-down menu shown in the attached image:

Hi Alan,

As Wayne says above, you can change your primary budget period from the Add/Edit Envelopes screen (https://goodbudget.com/envelope/edit).

As for things to be careful of or watch for, note that scheduled transactions you have will not change their frequency when you make a budget period change. For example, if you have your Income set to record Every Two Weeks with your old budget period, if you change your budget period to Semi-Monthly you will also have to change the frequency of that Income.

Hope that helps!

Is there an easy way to see my scheduled transactions if I`ve forgotten?
Thanks, Alan

I found it. On the web under Transactions, there was a link "See all your scheduled transactions »"

I ran into a problem. I have an existing semi-monthly envelope category. When I tried to change the primary budget to semi-monthly, I got this error:
"Semi-Monthly periods already exist in the More Envelopes section. Move them up to the Primary section and change your primary budget period when you've finished."

The existing semi-monthly envelope is not on the same schedule as what I need my primary budget period to be. If I move it, it loses the current schedule.

What can I do??

Hi Alan,

It sounds like you want to have your household on the Semi-Monthly primary budget period, but would also like to have some Envelopes that are also on the Semi-Monthly period but that use different semi-monthly starting dates.

It is not possible to have Semi-Monthly Envelopes that have a different semi-monthly period than your primary Semi-Monthly budget period. However, as a workaround you can create two separate Monthly Envelopes that start on the two days of the non-primary semi-monthly period.

To give an example for the above workaround, let's say your primary Semi-Monthly period starts on the 15th and 31st, and you want a separate Semi-Monthly Envelope that starts on the 6th and 21st. You can simulate this separate Semi-Monthly Envelope by instead creating two Monthly Envelopes, one that starts on the 6th, and one that starts on the 21st.

Hope that helps!
