What is the best way to convert envelopes from semi-monthly to monthly?  We have been using GoodBudget for several years, but now want to change the envelopes from semi-monthy to monthly, without losing our data.

I just went through this and it was pretty straightforward. If there are no pending transactions against the semi monthly envelopes, that’s the best time to do it. Just delete the semi monthly envelope, which will sweep any remaining balance back into unallocated, then create a new monthly envelope and move the unallocated funds back into the new monthly envelope. The reason to delete the semi monthly envelopes first is you can’t have two envelopes with the same name. None of these actions should affect your account balances.

If there are pending transactions, you will have “reassign” the balance back to zero the envelope out. I don’t recommend doing that for simplicity’s sake.

Hi Jim,

You can change your budget period from semi-monthly to monthly, and that will automatically change your semi-monthly envelopes to monthly as well.

You can see how to change your budget period here: https://help.goodbudget.com/customer/portal/articles/1336200
