Creating a csv import schema

Whenever I export transactions from my credit-card provider, I always have to open up their CSV file and negate all the values, then when I import it I have to choose the various headers which match the values I need.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could save these options as a schema for a particular bank that automatically does both of these steps?  They would remain personal to the user so no additional overheads for your team of managing these importers. If the headers alter at any time then you could just flag up that the schema no longer matches and prompt to create a new one/update the old one instead.

I would envisage an extra flag on the value column to negate the values, and a "save as standard import template" button or suchlike after having done the first import.

Hi Jon,

That's a pretty cool idea! I've added it to our request features tracker for future consideration.

Were you thinking there'd be a drop down menu somewhere where you could then select the particular bank schema that you're uploading?

Thanks

To be honest I was thinking it would simply be tied to the account your importing into. Only reason you'd need a drop-down would be if you plan to share standard templates, or if you wanted to share a schema between multiple of your own accounts with the same bank. The easiest option would be to match the way it works now but simply to remember the settings. Yes you'd need to recreate it for each account if you've got multiple accounts from that bank, but only once then it'd stick. Does that make sense?
