Is there any negative consequence to deleting an old (no longer used) envelope, if I no longer care about reports?

What about an old envelope with a balance?

Hi Alan,

If you delete an Envelope that you are no longer using, you will simply not have access to that Envelope anymore for recording Expenses, Transfers, Fills, etc. All transactions that are associated with that Envelope will remain in your household for you to view, and previous spending will still appear in your Reports.

If the Envelope you delete is carrying a balance, that balance will be transferred to your Unallocated.

Hope that helps!

F/U question: What will the transactions from the deleted envelope look like?  I.e. I have 2 envelopes I am done with, Furniture for Son's room, and New Washer & Dryer.  But I would still like to know what the transactions were for.  I don't use the reports.

Hi Telt1910,

The transactions will look as they currently do with one single change -- rather than show as being associated with "Envelope name", they'll show as being associated with "DELETED: Envelope name".

Hope that helps!

Hi Vickie,

Unfortunately, currently it's not possible to restore an Envelope that's been deleted. The best way to "resurrect" a deleted Envelope would be to create a new one with the same name, then use the bulk edit feature to move the old transactions to the new Envelope.

Hope that helps!
