Envelope "gauges" are moving the wrong direction for "Monthly" bills

I have tried contacting a few times about this, but I feel I need a picture to explain my point. Seeing that it is the 14th today, the black bars for these monthly "savings" envelopes should be on the other end of the gauge, indicating where you SHOULD be for tomorrow's due date. As it is, these gauges seem to reflect more of a "spending" envelope, such as for groceries or the like, where you would gradually have less as the pay period goes on instead of needing to save up for something.

If I am missing a setting or missing how this is supposed to be interpreted, please let me know. On a different note, thank you for the amazing app and keep up the good work!

Hi Chris,

Thanks for posting. I think the Envelopes you're referring to have periods of Monthly starting on the 15th. Is that right?

Right now, all Envelopes except Annual and Goal Envelopes are treated like Regular Spending Envelopes where the little black lines slowly move to the left throughout the month, indicating where you should be if you were 'on track' with your spending.

Since today is the last day before your Monthly Envelopes refresh, the lines are all the way to the left. Tomorrow, those black lines should refresh and will appear all the way to the right reflecting that your Monthly Envelopes budget periods have started a new.

Hope that makes sense!

The envelopes I have set up are due between the 15th and last day of each month, but come out of the check I get on the 15th. I just feel that the gauge should act as a monthly "goal" envelope. Would it not be possible to specify on each envelope whether it is a "spending" or "saving" envelope in order to change which direction the gauge moves?

Hi Chris,

I see. You're saving up for those expenses over the course of the month, and then pay the expense around the 15th. So, to you, the line should move the right to represent how on track you are with your saving. Is that right?

At this time, it's not possible to change the direction of that line. According to Goodbudget, it's a spending Envelope, so the line will move from right to left throughout your budget period, while the Envelope's balance bar shows your balance against your budget.

Thanks!

That is correct. I understand that it is not a feature that is currently available. With that in mind, is it possible to get a variation of the "Goal" envelopes to support this? I feel if when creating an envelope you could select the type of envelope as "spending" or "savings/goal" and then have two drop downs if it's a "savings/goal" envelope, one for duration (such as week(s), month(s), year(s) ) and another for the quantity of those (such as 2, 3, 6, 12, etc dependent on which type of occurrence is selected).

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the details of how you'd like a feature like this to work. I've added this to our request features tracker for future consideration.

Hope this helps for now!

Thank you. Honestly, as a programmer, if I lived closer I would apply for a position. But, sadly, I live in Oklahoma :)
