Envelopes with paid bills look the same as envelopes that have not been funded yet?

Hello, I think I may be missing something here and am hoping that you can help. I am just getting started with EEBA. I have created several envelopes and am attempting to populate the envelopes with activity that has already occurred during the month while having other envelopes ready for bills that will be paid later in the month.

For example, I have an envelope called "Mortgage," which I have already paid this month. In this envelope, there are two transactions. One is a distribution from my unallocated funds to the envelope in the amount of the mortgage payment, and the other reflects the payment to the loan servicer. As a result, the total balance of the envelope is $0.

A second envelope is called "Student Loan." I will not fill this envelope with funds until the next time I am paid, and of course I have not yet paid the bill. The balance here is also $0.

In my view, both envelopes exhibit a graph that is the same green color which makes it difficult to distinguish between bills that have been paid and bills that have not been paid, without going into the transaction detail. Should I be reporting transactions in a different way, or is there something I am missing in how I am viewing these two folders? Any help would be appreciated as I am looking forward to living on a budget:)

Hi Casey,

We've been thinking about this. You're right that currently an Envelope that hasn't been funded looks the same as one that was filled and is now empty. In our experience this seems to only be an issue with bills, and it sounds like that's your experience as well?

I've added your comments to our tracker. We're looking at bills management generally to see how we can handle that better. Thanks for your feedback!
