Goodbudget Spending vs Budget Periods

We have an every two week budget set up, thus we have 26 pay periods annually. In Goodbudget, I went to reports, spending vs budget, but the maximum number of time periods available is 12. Initially I assumed the 12 meant months and I thought my budgeting was off because I'd 'budgeted' $600 for homeowner's insurance and spent $1300. Then my husband pointed out that it says 'budget period,' not months.

In order for us to see how we are performing on an annual basis, we need to view at least 26 budget periods. Twelve isn't really meaningful at all.

Hi Sandra,

There's a good point. I've added your suggestion to our tracker about the option to show up to a year's worth of data for your report.

Hi!
Revisiting this.  I want to adjust my envelopes take advantage of the new time periods. Yeah! 3 months, 6 months, etc.  But when I try to run a report to see my spending vs budget over the past year, I cannot :(  I can only see 12 of my 26 pay periods per year still.

Hi Sandra,

Thanks for checking in on this, and I can definitely see how being able to view your whole budget for the year is so important.

Right now, I've made note of your request. However, at this time, we don't have plans to work on the reports feature. Because we're a small team of people, we have to prioritize what we work on, and we're focusing our efforts of features that are more requested/affect more people. I hope that makes sense. You can check out our Roadmap for updates on what we're working on. (https://goodbudget.com/roadmap/)

For now, you can try using the Spending by Envelope report. That report allows you to create a custom date range, so you can see your spending for the entire year, rather than just your last 12 budget periods.

I do apologize, as I know this isn't ideal. I'll be happy to let you know if we do decide to work on this.

Thanks, again.

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for posting. Currently, you can use the From and To fields (on all of the reports except the Spending vs. Budget report) to see spending information for your desired date range. If you want to see all of 2019, be sure to set the dates to Jan 1 2019 to Dec 31, 2019.

Hope that helps!

Spending vs. Budget is the one I want for the year.  I had to change my budget time from weekly to monthly.  Doing this messed up my allocated weekly amounts, I get paid weekly, but it gives me the ability to see this 12 month report instead of the 12 week report.

I'd like to learn if there's a better way of doing this.

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for clarifying. Unfortunately, there's not an easy to get the info you need.

What you can try is viewing both the Spending by Envelope and Budget Allocation report side by side. That way you can see your spending for the year alongside your current budget. You will, however, need to do mental math to convert the figures in the Budget Allocation report to annual ones.

I hope that helps for now!
