I need help understanding this

Am I missing something, As I spend using the envelopes system, how come I don't see a total balance left for each account, as you spend it, all I see is minus what I spent, it would be good to see what is left vs trying to calculate it? It can be a little confusing , is there an option for me to see the balance left for each account and the total left on my account?

Hi Nancy,

If you just started using EEBA, you might not have added any money to your envelopes. When you set up your envelopes, you set up the budget for each envelope, but this doesn't actually fill the envelopes with any money.

So that's why you are seeing just the negative amount of what you spent. Once you add money to all your envelopes, then you will in fact see what you want, the amount left in each envelope.

You use the "Add $" button in the app to do this (or Envelopes...Add Money on the website).

In the envelope budgeting method, you always fill the envelope before spending out of it.
