I'm wondering if I can use the accounts, as a work account and a business account. I would use a yearly budget on work and monthly on home. Does it work like this?

Hi Eddie,

That's a good question! It's possible to do what you're asking but a little tricky. Goodbudget is build to help you budget with all of the funds you have available in all of the Accounts you're tracking, and Envelopes are not tied to a specific Account.

Since you plan to use Monthly Envelopes for Home and Yearly Envelopes for Work, you just have to make sure that your Monthly Envelopes are filled with the exact amount of money available in your Home Account. And, your Yearly Envelopes would need to be filled with the same amount of money as your Business Account.

Hope this makes sense!

Is there a feature request that I could submit requesting the ability to run two totally different accounts? This would be incredibly awesome for my home and work workflow!!!

Hi Eddie,

Of course! You're thinking of a feature where you can run two separate 'Households' all in one login, to make for easy switching between the two.

Something like that?

Yes, even up at the very top, you could switch the entire "household" you are referring to. I'm thinking a dropdown from the top of every menu bar that would change the content for all the menu bars. Obviously my rendering here was done in haste, and just on the preview, but the concept should hold. That same menu option would be there whether you were on the envelope tab, transactions, accounts, or whatever the tabs are, and would enable you to transform the view of all of them over to your secondary "household"

Another potential feature would be to allow capturing photos of the receipts, and creating an auto-report that you could send (to a spouse or employer)

Thanks!

Thanks for the renderings! That's super helpful. I've included all of this info to your request in our features tracker for future consideration.

Thanks again

I love the idea of being able to do two separate "households" from a login.  I have really mastered the software for home and I own my own business.  I would love to be able to use it for that but I need to keep it separate.  Right now I just do it in excel but it would be awesome to do that.

Me too. Hence my suggestion earlier of simply offering a Goodbudget 2 that can serve as a separate app with a slightly different name such as "Goodbudget2".  Android could then treat them as separate apps with separate directory paths so both separate budgets could be accessed on the same cell phone.

That would solve the problem for those who are sole proprietors and run a business with separate funds.  It would also solve the same problem for those couples who have separate bank accounts and budgets, as well as for those who are a POA for a family member who is handicapped and who's funds must not be mixed with other funds.

Currently, the only way to do that would be to install yet another envelope budgeting app to handle the other account.

At one point, I was handling 4 different accounts at the same time.  One for me, another for a handicapped Wife, one for a handicapped Daughter, and the fourth account was for my business.  I literally had to manage 4 different envelope budgeting apps on my phone to manage all three!

Offering access to more than one budget within Goodbudget would be a major undertaking that could be taken on later, if so desired, but simply offering a separate "GoodBudget2" could handle the budgets on the same phone for even those other people who must handle more than  one budget... thus making it unnecessary for those users to install a competitor's envelope budgeting app to handle their second budget.

Due to this, it would make very good business sense for GoodBudget, as well. :-)

Just my 2 cents, for what it's worth.
