Scheduled Payment / Income Ends

Good day folks,

I love Goodbudget. It is, by far, the best budgeting tool I've ever encountered. Thank you for developing this tool.

A few suggestion from my end, it would be good if there is a feature to end scheduled payments. Such as: Date / Number of payments.
So, if I schedule my expenses weekly, sometimes I need to put an end of it after certain payments. At the moment now, I need to do it manually.

Another similar suggestion is for the scheduled income. As budgeting process evolves from time to time, we will need to update our flow of fund. Would it be good if we can schedule the old flow of income to end on a certain date and start the new flow of income on a certain date?

To sum it up, at the moment, I can only find how to start a schedule, whether it's payment or income. However, I could not find a way to end the schedule. I think that's gonna be great feature to also have the end of scheduling method.

Thanks.

Hi there,

Thanks for the suggestions! I can see how adding an end date for scheduled transactions would be helpful! You're right that right now you have to manually delete the scheduled transactions when it's done.

I've added that to our request features tracker for future consideration.

I'm not sure I understand why having an end date for an income is helpful, mostly because I'm not sure that people usually know when their income flow will change. Am I misunderstanding you?

Thanks!

Hi Karisa,

Thank you for putting my request into consideration.

Having an end date for the income is not mainly for the change of income flow. It is for the purpose of budgeted income change in each envelope, which might happen at the end of financial year. It may be an income flow change (increase or decrease salary) or may be just swapping around fund allocation.

For example, I have scheduled my joint income weekly for $1,000 to be distributed as $400 in envelope A and $600 in envelope B. However, since I want to change the budget allocation for each envelope in the next financial year, I schedule a different budget allocation to start on 1July17, distributing $500 in envelope A and $500 in envelope B. On the other hand, I don't have a schedule in place to end my current budgeted income on 31June17.

Well, it is not the biggest deal to have this feature as how often people change their budgeted income? Probably once a year at the end of financial year. Or even once in two years.

Definitely people need to end their scheduled payment more often than to end their scheduled income. But I guess it is a nice feature to have, if just in case, people need it.

Cheers, Budi

Thanks for the extra details! I can see how that would be helpful! Currently, Goodbudget does something similar. For example, you can create a scheduled Envelope Fill and date it for when you'd like it to occur, which could be many months into the future. You'd still want to update the budgeted amounts of your Envelopes too, but scheduling the Fill would allow you to adjust how your Envelopes will be filled on a future date.

I've added your thoughts to our tracker. Thanks!
