Separate reports for each device?

Me and my partner have just started to use GoodBudget and are really happy with the app so far. Syncing a budget between two devices was the key feature which made us choose GoodBudget in the first place. Now, in addition to combined reports, we would very much like to have separate readouts for the reports, for example to see how much each one of us is spending on eating out on their own. Is this a feature already implemented and I just did not find out how to use it? Or is this a missing feature? If so, do you have any plans to implement it?
Thank you for your help in advance, Matthias

Hi Matthias,

That's a great question! What I would suggest is using the Tagging feature to filter for your personal spending.

To clarify, you'll have to access the website to filter for tags, since it's currently not implemented on the mobile apps. But, here's how you'd use it.

Whenever you enter a transaction, you'll add a hashtag, '#', in front of your desired tag name into the Notes field of that transaction. For example, your tag could look like this, #matthias. Then, you'd use the Spending by Envelope report on the web (https://goodbudget.com/reports/spending-by-envelope) to filter for your tag.

When you do that, Goodbudget will return Envelopes that have transactions associated with that tag.

You can read more about using tags here: http://help.goodbudget.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1371329-organize-your-transactions-with-taggi...

Hope this helps!

Hi Karisa, thank you for the quick reply. I just read about tags and tried it, it works exactly as you described. That's great news for us, we'll doing it this way from now on! :)
However, it involves a somewhat unnecessary step, because this information is already there when syncing 2 devices. Would it be possible to make a feature request?
Thanks again, Matthias

Hi Matthias,

Glad to hear tagging will work for you!

Can you clarify what you mean when you say the information is already there? Do you mean tagging is unnecessary because the devices are already different?

Thanks for your help!

Hey Karisa,
tagging works, but it would be great to have such a feature automatically enabled. And yes my idea was as as you said: My partner and I are using different devices, and we can even name each device differently in Goodbudget. But it seems to me this information is not used in any way. Goodbudget could automatically track from which device transactions are created and use this information to provide users with an option to display expenses separately for each device in the reports section.

Hi Matthias,

I see! That makes sense. Having Goodbudget automatically enable a tag, or mark transactions with device information would remove the step of adding the tag yourself.

I've added this to our request features tracker for future thought.

Thanks again
