Show a list of available tags when entering new items.

I frequently enter transactions with tags with long time intervals in between and I frequently forget what tags I have used previously and then they don't match with the ones I created initially. A way to reference these tags when entering transactions would be a great help.

If you show a textbox to enter new tags with a drop down selection as well for previously used tags, I can then select existing tags that I have already created and also create new ones if needed. Multiple selections of tags would be needed as well.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for the suggestion. We've considered improving tag support on the mobile apps, but it hasn't been a priority for us yet. How important is this feature for you, compared to say more reports in the apps?

I've added your thoughts to our requested features tracker. Thanks for taking the time to let us know.

Steven,
In response to your quip about 'more reports in the app'- that would be nice in reference to tags. Our family uses tags for every transaction, and keep our envelopes simple. So for example, our envelope entitled Monthly Expenses will have a gas, electric, and rent expense, all tagged with their own hashtag name. With this setup, we would love to be able to do an expense breakdown report by hashtags instead of envelopes. The current process requires us to run the report one tag at a time.
Best,
Ben & Brit

Hi Britnay,

Thanks for the feedback. You can filter by tags for some reports on the web, but not in the mobile apps. I don't have an ETA on when tag filtering will be added to the reports for iPhone. The best answer I can give is to use separate Envelopes instead of tags to be able to see the breakdown you want.

I typically don't use the reports so this is more important for me. However I'm suggesting this for both the mobile app as well as the desktop website. I've never gotten into the reports because I think I use the system in a unique way (either that or I'm doing something wrong because the reports never come out the way I think they should).

the tags are pretty important for me though because I always forget how I typed the tag in previously, so then I have a bunch of tags that are similar but not quite the same.

Tags are huge! In EEBA, I could easily run reports and see my tags (in alphabetical order) on the web site. Today, I can't. So, moving to Goodbudget has resulted in the loss of functionality. As Kevin points out, I can't remember if I used #car_repairs the last time I had an expense, or #repairs_car or #auto_repairs. Having the tags at least display in alphabetical order would help.

That's how it worked in EEBA. I could run a report, then scan the list alphabetically.
Now, I guess I'll have to run a report, export to Excel, then sort the tag column. Ugh. That's a lot of extra work for this application, when we had that functionality previously.

And I don't think we're asking for this on the mobile devices, but definitely on the web site. I think Kevin would run more reports if they were more user-friendly. They used to be that way, Kevin.

Hi Michael,

Sorry for the inconvenience with the change the way tags are displayed in Goodbudget. I've added your feedback to our bug tracker.
