Split a transaction over multiple accounts

It would be really helpful to be able to split a transaction over two or more accounts in the way that you can currently split between envelopes.  Often I will have some amazon or paypal credit that I apply to a purchase and make up the difference with a credit card.  Recently I made an amazon purchase in this manner that came from multiple envelopes AND was split across accounts!  It was a real hassle trying to make that come out right.  A "multiple accounts" feature would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Same here Kevin, Amazon vouchers always end up being a PITA and the only way to do it currently is to have multiple entries for the same purchase - it would be really good to be able to tie all transactions for one purchase together into one entry.

I, too, would love to see this feature. As I am currently receiving food stamps most of my shopping trips entail using two cards, my EBT card and my debit card, on the same receipt. Recently I even  used three cards on a receipt since I also had a gift card. Every time I enter a receipt into Goodbudget I have to break it into however many transactions as there were forms of payments. It's not horrible, but it would be nice if I could keep one receipt/trip to itself for organizational purposes.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Split Transactions Between Multiple Accounts.

It's not horrible, but it would be nice if I could keep one receipt/trip to itself for organizational purposes by splitting the accounts and not just the envelopes when I enter a transaction. I know it's not uncommon to pay with multiple forms of payment; like if you have a gift card you want to finish off but it doesn't cover the full amount, so you supplement with another form of payment. Or you pay part cash-part card/check. Or if you buy something online and you have a credit or points with a store that you want to account for. Or, like me, the many people who use EBT food or cash benefits and still want to responsibly track it. Someone with both food and cash benefits would use one card but still be tracking two separate accounts. Having a way to apply your total to the separate accounts you used to pay for it (without breaking the receipt up and listing each account as a completely separate transaction) would be really convenient. (Some things separate easily: food to food stamps, non food to other payment forms. Other things don't: the gift card covered 2.5 items, the other 1.5 items go on the other transaction? uhh..)

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for letting us know why you'd like to see this feature! I often make payments out of different Accounts, so I definitely agree it would be helpful.

I've added your vote to the list!

Sorry if my second post was duplicating. After further search I realized Kevin's post is listed under product ideas for android and I primarily budget on my computer so I had added a post to product ideas for Goodbudget for the Web; I wasn't sure if they needed to be categorized separate or not? That's why I ended up creating the second post in a different place. But if it's all the same thing and the categories don't matter then that works, too. :)

(I have noticed the Goodbudget on the Web seems to have more features and capabilities than the app, hence my assumption that feature requests were specific to platform.)

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for letting me know! I merged the cases since the feature request was the same. It is helpful to know what platform folks are making the request for, and you can let me know either in the comment, or by the label, and I'll make note on my side.

Thanks again!

Just thought I'd bump this one having purchased coffee in Starbucks today with a combination of both card and cash! Currently looks like I've made two visits today, I promise I haven't!!

I have this problem all the time! I use Vouchers/Gift cards alot & end up having to do multiple enteries or transfers to make everything tally.  It would be great if someone could find a formula to do split accounts when entering a transaction like you can with split envelopes.

I would really, really like to see this implemented. I recently took advantage of Amazon free returns to comparison shop for a particular product. Took me 4 tries to find the right one. Each time I sent one back, i had to add money to my "Amazon" account. Then at some point I am inevitably going to make a purchase that is split between the "Amazon" account and a credit card. Each time that happens I have to duplicate that purchase to split it between the two accounts.

This is the holiday season, and a lot of people are going to end up with a number of gift cards when it's all over. The type of people who use GoodBudget are probably just the type of people who will want to add those gift cards to their budget.

It seems to me that in today's monetary culture, with Amazon, PayPal, Starbucks Rewards, refillable gift cards, etc., this should be a really important feature.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for posting and for letting us know why this would be useful for you! I've added your vote to our tracker, along with the others.

Just to keep you all updated, this feature is still currently marked as 'Not planned,' since this is something that's not in the works. Right now, we're focusing a lot of our attention on building out more Debt features to the mobile apps, and you can keep an eye on what we're doing on our Roadmap

Thanks again
