Split envelopes in android

I have a transaction that splits into multiple envelopes in the Android app. When you select Split into Multiple Envelopes, and change the amounts for the envelopes, I keep getting an additional envelope added. There was a time where adding 0.00 to the extra envelope was accepted, but now I get an error that all fields must be filled out.

Example, $149 cheque split into $104 and $45. When I select Split into Multiple Envelopes, the full amount is applies to the first envelope, so I change it. Once I get to the next envelope, a third one gets automatically added. And if I keep on going, another envelope is added. I can't keep up.

I will try adding screenshots but it is quite an intensive process... If someone else has this problem, perhaps there is a better way of explaining this phenomenon. It's been buggy since using the app for a couple of months now, but it's no longer amusing.

Hi Cheryl, I've noticed the same issue. Try the following:

Create your transaction
Add your total spend (Amount)
Choose Split into multiple Envelopes
Set the first envelope and amount
Choose the second envelope I.e. don't try to change the amount, let the app do it automatically

Only change the 2nd envelope amount if you want to split into three or more envelopes

Hope that helps for now

Thanks, Rich, for the reminder: this was the workaround I was using until I forgot the step-by-step method!

But the bug should still be fixed, ahem, by staff. Extra envelopes show up if you accidentally trigger the amount field. So, if Goodbudget reps are reading this, there is a workaround, but it's too finicky to leave as is, so I wouldn't consider it resolved.

Hi Cheryl,

Thanks for your feedback. You're right that it's awkward that an Envelope with an amount of 0.00 should prohibit you from saving your transaction. I think the correct behavior would be to ignore Envelopes that have an amount of 0.00 as long as the sum of the Envelopes is equal to the total amount. I've added this bug to our tracker for a future maintenance sprint.
