I've got one phone running Android 2.2 and one running 2.3. The 2.2 stopped syncing in January, and the 2.3 last month. What gives? I did not update the old 1.7 EEBA app on the 2.3 because I didn't like it on the 2.2. The GoodBudget app in the Play store says that it's not supported on 2.2 and 2.3? What gives? I am a paying customer and not having an app that works on older versions of Android seems a little odd. The old 1.7 version of EEBA worked fine!!!! Now both phones will not sync, and the new version of Goodbudget in the Play Store says it will not work with my phones. I tried updating on the 2.2 before I realized that...and it downloaded, but won't log in at all...says to check my internet connection. Internet connection is fine, works with everything else. Can I get a legacy version of EEBA that will work on my older phones? If not, I will have to consider other options. And most likely free, that will work on my phones.

Ya, I wasn't impressed with the move to "Goodbudget" either. The old EEBA that worked on all of my devices was just fine along with the EEBA website. Isn't there some conventional wisdom that says something about not fixing things that aren't broken?

The security update isn't related to retiring the EEBA website. We've been running the Goodbudget app on Android since November 2013, and recently, we ran into a technical limitation; there was a required external security update at the end of last year. Because the available security update only applied to the devices on Android OS 4.x and higher, those using anything before 4.x would be at risk. We made the decision to discontinue support of the older version of our app, not because of a budgetary decision, but because we didn't want our users to be susceptible to the security risk. I hope that makes sense.
We don't have any plans to stop support the platforms we currently support: iOS, Android, and web.
That being said, we're sorry that you're unhappy about EEBA. We've been making updates to the Goodbudget webapp based on user feedback. Our latest update enabled users to see more Envelopes, and improve mobile web performance by fixing the Add Transaction module to the top of the screen so that it scrolls with the rest of the page.

However, I do appreciate your prompt replies to the issue here on the forum.
Thank you!
Here's some further feedback on the Goodbudget webapp. Just bring back EEBA and it will be fine. GB isn't nearly as intuitive, seems "dumbed-down" (unfortunately like a lot of products these days) and just plain doesn't work as well. If I hadn't started with EEBA, I wouldn't be on Goodbudget today.

We are committed to developing secure tools for our users. Internet security as a whole is a bit of a moving target--working to stay a few steps ahead of the "bad guys". New technologies and techniques are being introduced regularly, while flaws and vulnerabilities are also regularly being discovered in older technologies. In some cases, advancements in computing have simply made older security methods ineffective.
There have recently been several flaws discovered in some of the older algorithms and methods used in internet encryption. In almost every case, a new algorithm was already available but the older, less secure methods were still being used well beyond their expected lifetime for legacy and compatibility reasons.
Some companies have chosen to leave these vulnerable algorithms in place in order to continue to support customers with legacy systems.
For Goodbudget (and EEBA), we have followed the recommendations of Microsoft, Google, Mozilla, and other security experts and stopped using the older, vulnerable algorithms. Unfortunately, this does mean that occasionally computers and phones running older operating systems may not support the newer technologies, and we are no longer able to support them.
