Time zone or settable time for scheduling

What time does the schedule use for transferring funds? It would be nice to be able to set a time for transfer or a timezone so it transfers at the start of the day.

Hi Andrew,

EEBA updates scheduled items at 3AM pacific standard time. I know it must be frustrating for users in different time zones, but I'm sorry we have not developed the capability for EEBA to change its update time.

This is not ideal, but if you would really like to see your transfers earlier in the day, you can set an earlier date so that the scheduled item is performed at 3AM PST the day earlier. Then go back and edit the date in the transaction history.

Thanks for the user feedback and I will add your voice to our feature-tracker.

I second this feature request.

Here in Australia, it is 8pm and my scheduled transactions have not yet come through.

All I am doing is just waiting for it to come through as normal, and on the iphone ignore the negative balance, and as the red moves in from the right, imagine the white on the left bar as green. I guess when the scheduled transaction takes affect as income, the white will turn green and the red will turn white. (or tne fully red will be less red???)

Hi Craig,

The amount of green you will see all depends on how much you've allocated for the budget period!

And I'll add your voice to our feature request tracker. Thanks for the feedback from Australia.

I third the vote for timezone support! I'm in China, 10 hours off from EST and it's frustrating to not have the automatic transfers happen on time!

I know I've already been "added" to this comment, but let me just say again that this is a really necessary adjustment to make. I'm in China, 10 hours ahead of Pacific time, and so I've set my automatic transactions to post at the end of the month instead of the first day of the month--that way they're posted on the first of the month for me. In this case, my envelopes filled on January 31, Pacific time.

Unfortunately, this creates a series of problems, because all of my transactions in the afternoon/evening of January 31 (China time) subtracted from February's budget instead of January's. Thus, I "started the month" with some my envelopes substantially off.

So, it looks like I can either have it post on February 1st, and spend my January budget the morning of February 1st, or I can have it post on January 31st, and spend my February budget on the evening of January 31st. Either option is bad.

We need timezone support!

Hi Mark,

Sorry for the trouble! We do hear you and understand how frustrating it can be for your Envelopes to autofill in the middle of the day instead of in the beginning.

One workaround you can try is to manually post the distribution before it runs. Just open the Scheduled item, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Record now" to post it in the morning before you start recording transactions for the month. I know this is a little more work, but I hope it helps for now.

I'd like to add my vote for time zone support please.

Also I'd like to point out that this workaround - manually posting the transaction - doesn't work perfectly. I am in the UK and if I post transactions in the morning from the schedule (hit the now button) then they actually get posted with the date being yesterday, which I then have to correct.

I guess that is because it is still yesterday out there, Chris, and you are therefore still posting early? Like you I just change the date but I tend to post all my scheduled a day early anyway so no big deal for me. But we are all different. It is good this is on their radar but like, I think, you I feel it is an important update for users in other timezones.

Just after some additional thought on this. Fully implementing multiple timezones could be tricky I imagine.

But I'd get 99% of the utility if, when you used the "now" feature for a scheduled transaction, the date that was used was just read from the local machine/browser. I guess this could be done via javascript (?) and fed back to the server, with it then using that date rather than now() or whatever the function is that is being used. Possibly easier to implement.

Hi Chris,

You're definitely right that a Time Zone feature would be tricky to implement. One of our developers explained to me that it would require us to be able to find out what time zone folks are in. Apparently, that in it of itself is tricky.

I like your idea of having Goodbudget use your computer's local date and time when using the Record Now feature. I'm no developer, so I can't say how much easier this would be. But, I've updated our notes in our features tracker so we can consider this.

Thanks again!

Sounds a good idea to me. I was wondering if the local computer date/time could play a part so same sort of thing.

Re time zones is it not good enough to have users declare where they are in their profile. You could then map back to a table or the like.

Hi Colin,

That's a good idea! Possibly in the Household preference section, there could be a box where you could check which time zone you're in.

Does that sound like what you're suggesting?

Hi, I would like to vote for this timezone support on the web interface.

I think it's a good idea to have that option in our household setting. It would be much better if we also can choose on what time in our timezone that we would like to post our pending transaction.

This seems like a relatively quick win to get rid of an annoying little "bug"...  I agree with Stephanus above, this would simply need to be a setting per household that adjusts the scheduled date time (both when displaying scheduled items, and to trigger the action) - or am I missing somewhere else that this date is used that would prevent it from being fixed?

Hi Jon and Sharmaine,

Yes we recently rolled out Custom Time Zones! Glad to hear you're liking it :D

We've been checking ourselves to make sure it's working correctly, but we'd love your feedback. Let us know if your scheduled transactions are posting when you think they should be.

Hi Karisa,

Scheduled transactions seem to be working fine. I logged onto GoodBudget at 10AM my time and my scheduled transaction was already activated.

Though future scheduled transactions that are activated "Now" though still activate for yesterday (Feb. 28) instead of today (Mar. 1), so those are still being activated for the default timezone.

Thank you, team, for your hard work! :)

Hi Sharmaine,

Yay! Thanks for the feedback!

Yes, it's true that when you 'Record Now' those transactions will still use our server's local time.

Thanks again

Is that intentional, Karisa? We do seem to have two definitions of "now" now :-)

Hi Colin,

Well, I think the answer to your question would be that 'Record Now' isn't international, since it's not using your timezone. Is that what you mean?
