New to Goodbudget...

Filled my envelopes so good so far

But fex. I have one Envelope for groceries with x amount.
When I got my salary I filled it.
Every time I have made a purchase I have transfers the amount from that envelope and then used the account where I get my salary.

But that is wrong...
On payday I transferred that amount to a separate debit card which is dedicated to groceries.
The balance on that card is the same as my groceries envelope but the balance on my Account in Goodbudget is wrong(-:

How can I fix it

Hi Anna-Karin,

Thanks for posting and sorry for the trouble getting started!

I'm not sure I understand your process for recording Grocery transactions exactly. But, it sounds like one of your Accounts is wrong. Is that Account used exclusively for purchases on Groceries?

Ultimately, if your Account balance is wrong, the best way to correct it would be to go through your Account's history and look for errors (i.e. adding transactions for the wrong amount, or adding transactions to the wrong Account). Try opening up you online bank account so you can view what's in Goodbudget side by side against your bank.

Let me know if that doesn't help.

I think I understand what’s happened. It sounds like you transferred money from your salary account to a dedicated debit card, but then also marked your grocery transactions against your salary account. This means your salary account is being charged doubly; once for the debit card transaction, and then additionally every time you make a grocery transaction.
I have a similar situation at my coffee shop. The way I got around it is to create another “account“ for the debit card. First, do an account transfer from your salary account to the debit card “account“. Then, mark your grocery transactions against the debit card account. This way your salary account will be accurate, but the money you have set aside for groceries will still be available. Moving money from your salary account to your debit card account won’t change your unallocated balance. I hope that helps!
