Why can’t I add envelopes in “edit envelopes?”

I am a new user trying to figure out how to allocate all my money in the envelopes. I bought the subscription to add as many envelopes as I want. I see that I have leftover money to put into envelopes, but when I add envelopes for this, and hit Save, the envelopes don’t show up as filled and when I enter expenses, it says I have negative money. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Hi Lori,

Welcome to Goodbudget! It sounds like you're adding new Envelopes to your household and are wondering why they're not automatically Filled with money. This is because creating Envelopes is a separate step from actually Filling them with money -- when you set a number for each of them when you create them, this is just the budgeted amount (aka guide) for how much you want to save/spend for that category. To actually allocate money for saving/spending, you'll have to do an Envelope Fill to put money in the Envelope(s). You can see a great guide on doing that in our Help Center here.

Once you've Filled your Envelopes, you should be able to record transactions and see the amount diminish properly rather than go straight to the negatives.

Hope that helps!
