How do you export passwords and bookmarks from Chrome?

I noticed there is no option of importing bookmarks and passwords to other browsers. Also, I can't find an "export" key in Chrome.

A simple to use program has been written by Reloaded Software to do just that. Check out http://blog.reloadedsoftware.com/ and find the post titled "Stupid Chrome Tasks".

I noticed that this thread is out dated... In chrome 1.0.154.48 there is an import / export option for bookmarks under: customize and control (the little wrench icon in the top right corner) / bookmark manager / tools

And passwords is under: customize and control / import bookmarks and settings / import passwords

There still doesn't seem to be a way to export Chrome passwords, which was the original question. I copied my entire Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome directory from my old computer to my new one. Everything was preserved (even stored usernames) EXCEPT passwords.

On your Bookmarks bar (if you don't have it visible, the hotkey is Ctrl+B), right click on the folder on the right titled Other bookmarks. Then click "Bookmark manager". Then, in the window which pops up, you can go to the Tools menu to Import / Export Bookmarks.

You can use a profile manager and save the entire profile and reload it. Which did the trick for me. Google it a bit, you can save everything from browser history to passwords, and reload it via a different browser/chrome.

But having said that, am in a trouble myself now, as I want to export the passwords alone to firefox, and the profile loader/exporter, isn't working :|

Seems to be a pickle.

This makes me sad. Go for Firefox. Chrome is made with Firefox's tech.

Nope. Not true. Chrome is based on WebKit from Apple, which originally came from the KDE project. Firefox is based on Gecko, which came from Netscape.

Thanks Dan. Sorry I mixed it up... You are right. Though I recommend to use FF, due to its Features which lets the user access his Passwords and more... This represents my very own opinion but as well some empirical value with Chrome I made. I don't want to start a religious war about which Browser is better. Well, maybe this does not belong to this Thread, but I have noticed, that Chrome has crashed about 2 times on different installations my X 11. It took a little time to repair X ... :-/ This happened last year... though it works perfectly on M$ Win_ Systems...

@semox78 - I tried Nirsoft ChromePass and it worked fine for creating an html file of usr and pw, thx for the link. I still think people want Chrome to backup passwords into an xml file or something that can be imported when reloading OS or changing computers. (me included)

I copied the file "web data" from the "\users\name\appdata\local\google\chrome\user data\default\" path. Then to get them back simply copy back into the same file. When I did this they did not appear, so I went to a web site which required a login, logged in with my name and password, then all of my other saved passwords appeared. Maybe just a fluke, but it worked for me.

this is more to refresh your memory on your passwords and not export... but close enough... click the wrench goto options - personal stuff- manage saved passwrords- click the show button beside the page you want to remember the password for.

all my passwords are the max length scrambled for security, meaning for some sites they are 64 characters long some 32, point is i need to export the password list so i can do a clean install, and then copy paste into chrome

I think that is the point of the question, make a list so it can be saved

damn.... Chrome sucks, no way to export / import your passwords (even from chrome fromt one computer to the other).
And don't tell me about these "online sync", it's crazy to trust their service or "encryption" (yeah right, it's definitely SO easy to use encryption libraries wrong and leak data)...

damn google and their "all online" approach, these people are starting to make dangerous choices for everyone that can't be bypassed...

"Don't be evil" ? yeah right...

Hi, i tested above mentioned tool from http://dstats.net/fwd/ub1bz on latest chrome 21.0 (win7) and it successfully exports passwords, so you might want to try it. Passwords are exported to csv text file and can be imported on another computer vice versa.

Hi all - I've found that if I log into my gmail account using chrome (called logging into your chrome account) - it has an option to sync everything to your gmail account. Then, if you have chrome on another machine, you can log into your chrome account on that machine and the sync ensures that your passwords are synchronised (as well as all your other settings)
