[...] if you decide that you don't need your Gmail address anymore, and you're sure you won't want your username in the future, you can simply remove Gmail from your Google Account.

Once you delete your Gmail address, you can't reactivate it, and you won't be able to retrieve any messages.

I lost my BLOG site because of cancelling an old gmail address. That is just wrong! Now I cannot retrieve YEARS of blogging. The blog still shows the recent stuff, but when you hit "next page" it comes up as "deleted". I am totally bummed and think people should know this about cancelling/deleting email accounts.

I have just accidently cancelled a gmail account and I to am annoyed as it was my business e-mail address. I cannot find any way to re-activate it or set up a new account with the same address, which means more expense for me as I now have to order new business cards and re- advertise my business with new e-mail details. We should be able to re instate our gmail accounts.

Tracy, luckily I only lost a bunch of non-critical personal emails. For your business you should probably buy your own domain and setup Google Apps Standard on it. It's much harder to accidentally lose your email with Google Apps, and you have more control over it.

Why the hell is there a cupcake on my profile picture?

I like the cupcake profile pic, making me hungry.

I learned a valuable lesson regarding gmail accounts. I'm a new business hence keeping my overheads to a minimum but sometimes I guess you just have to put your hand in your pocket!

Hi,

I have deleted the google account and its services related to that account, but i still recieve the messages through google sms channel, which have been activated through the deleted google account.

What the hell is this, I have deactivated all the services related to that account, but it happened nothing than account deletion. I couldnt access the google account to deactivate the google sms channel too!

What the hell the worlds no.1 valuable company is doing.

I deleted my gmail/google account a week ago, all you have to do to reactivate it is go to gmail, then under where you sign in, go to "can't access your account?", then click on the third option "I'm having other problems signing in" and then it will take you to a page that has you verify that it is you, and then it reactivates your account.

Restoring a deleted account

Google Accounts can only be recovered within a short period of time after deletion. If you received an error message stating that "This account was deleted and is no longer recoverable," the account has been deleted for too long and cannot be restored by our support team.

Some common reasons people see this message include:

Your account was disabled for perceived spamming and, because you did not sign in to verify your identity, your account was deleted.
You intended to delete a certain product from your account but accidentally deleted your entire Google Account.
You never owned this account, and it was deleted by the true owner.
If you accidentally deleted your Google Account, you can attempt to restore it by going to our password-assistance page within a limited window of time after deletion. If you’d like to create a new Google Account, visit our sign-up page. Note that you will be unable to reuse your old Gmail username, as Gmail usernames cannot be recreated after they've been deleted.
