Stand alone version of Hexawise..

The client I am working at has IE6 as the standard and has not moved to IE7. In such an environment SAAS might not work. Does Hexawise come as a standalone S/W that can be installed?

Official Response
Arshad,

Thank you for your question. Let me break it into two separate questions:

1) Does Hexawise offer stand-alone, locally-hosted solutions for users?
2) Does Hexawise offer IE6-support?

Yes and No.

To question 1: Yes. Hexawise does offer locally-hosted solutions for our clients who want to keep all of their data within their four walls. The Hexawise test generation appliance can be installed by clients locally. This locally-hosted SaaS solution has the same features as our regular SaaS version does.

To question 2: No. We do not support IE6 in either our locally-hosted solution or our SaaS version. Nor do we offer versions that can be downloaded onto computers. IE6 must die. The quicker the better.

It is well past time for your client to move on. Please encourage them to. Seriously. In 2010, it is an abomination of an excuse for a web browser. It hasn't been supported by Microsoft in years. It is full of security holes. IE6 doesn't handle features of modern web applications competently. Enough is enough.

As of March 1st, Google Apps has dropped support for IE6. Their reasoning for not supporting IE6 is the same as ours (though they are more diplomatic about describing the limitations of IE6 than we are): http://googleenterprise.blogspot.com/...

We were ahead of Google on this one. We have never offered IE6 support.

We considered sending flowers to the IE6 funeral held last month:

Even the IE team at Microsoft sent flowers to the IE6 funeral:

Please ask you client when they are going to upgrade to a less soul-crushingly outdated browser for the good of their employees and their software testers.

Thank you.

PS - We have a surprisingly high number of requests to support IE6 from financial service firms, government agencies, and buggy whip manufacturers. If we have enough of them who are prepared to pay us to create and maintain an IE6 version of our software, we will consider doing so. Reluctantly. All else being equal, we'd rather continue spend our mental energy improving our test case case generating tool as opposed to retrofitting it to work with a walking-dead technology that, by all rights, should have died long ago.
