HP TX1000 WHY WON'T IT TURN ON?

As I have recently read about the hp tx1000, no one seems to have a solid answer about what is causing it to turn on with a black screen, all the lights are on, but nothing... i tried the battery off/on the ac outlet.. the power is fine.. I reseated the modules and the hard drive.. Please help..

HEY GUYS! i have the exact same problem and...
even tough its not a solution, if you plug in a secondary screen (like an external monitor, or a videoprojector or something) before turning your laptop on, it will start normally, and just 2 seconds after that happens, you can unplugg it, and it will keep working.......so im guessing it must be some sort of trouble with the drivers or the OS

hope i was of some help, and we'll keep on trying

  • I have the same problem. CONTACT HP!!! The dv6000 had this problem and it was with the motherboard so they extended the warranty for it to 2 years. My warranty ended last month and NOW this happens! They say they don't have reports of this issue (BS) Tell them that the issue exists, I went to their online chat support and told them and they said it will cost $398!!! If you have this problem report it to HP MAYBE (hopefully) they will have enough reports for them to make the warranty 2 years. I think the problem is with the hardware to begin with! HP needs to fix this for free!

  • Its funny... I started having this exact same problem a month after my warranty expired. BIOS update did not solve the problem. I will try the NVIDIA driver update.

  • I’m disappointed
ok soo, i know now what the problem is
what happens is, that TX1000's cooling devices dont really work as they should, soo the GPU ovearheats, and burns some Graphics related connections on the MBoard or something, so the only real solution to this, is replacing the Mother Board, and hope it doesnt fry again.
orr wait for HP to aknowledge this issue and recall this pieces of ssshhiitt.
mine still works, even tough it sometimes reaches up to 100 C degrees , i just have to turn it on and off a couple dozen times, till the screen works.
but i stopped doin anything that uses 2 much graphics such as gaming, animated wallpapers etc.
I guess all there is left to do is Wish us all Good Luck with HP's crapppyy customers service..

I did some investigation... it could be the NVIDIA chip thats bad... actually the sensor, that senses if the chip is too hot or cold, is probably screwed up and it messes up the booting

Having the same problem with the tx1000 as everybody else. The failure occurs almosts always between 12 and 18 months, just in time for the warranty to expire. HP says some part numbers are covered under recall and some are not, even though the same problem has occured. They have a real lemon here but will not take care of everybody affected. Time to stop buying HP products if they can not take care of their loyal customers. I have purchased 5 laptops from HP but not anymore.

  • I’m telling everyone how bad HP is
i also have this problem. my research on google lead me to believe this problem is caused by the defective NVIDIA chipset that was used in several models of HP notebooks. there is no known permanent fix. shipping it back to HP will only give me a replacement chip that has the same defect and in 2 months i will start to see the same problems with display, video, wireless internet, and eventually problems powering up the notebook. don't buy HP

    mr never buy HP again

    Hello all,

The real and final problem comes from Nvidia, it's fixable, we fix motherboards like that, TX and DV series.

I am no HP supporter don't get me wrong, but at our shop we have had SONY vaio, acer travel mate and even DELL with the same exact problem so do not blame necessarily only HP :) ...HP is to blame that they did this cheap model DV pavilion and it had too much success :)))

At my computer repair shop we fix these issues and they stay fixed, but I have to recognize that SONY, Acer and Dell are a lot more easy to fix as the engineering inside is a lot better, for the HP we have to do additional engineering inside your laptop so it stays FIXED :)

What I'm trying to say here is: it's easy to blame HP but they just went with the flow and risked on a "less or no tested product"

And here is my tip of the day - here at Bimos.be SPRL (my company) we have noticed that DV - running XP does not have this problem of few have compared to Vista running ones :) high resolutions may also have negative impact - so if you can lower it a little bit.

  • There is a simple fix to the problem if you can do it yourself. I found it on Youtube. Followed the guy's instructions to the letter and I have not had any problems with my tx1327 since. It reboots and has no more black screen.

  • I’m confident
What you saw on youtube is just a mirage, (it's temporary), the only thing that works is a "reballing" procedure that you have to perform on your GPU. and to do that yourself well it's about 1500 to 2000 dollars of material.
The procedure consists in taking the GPU -graphics chip "nvidia" out and basically replace the "legs" that attach it to the motherboard. if you do a search on youtube with "reballing" as your search string you'll find a lot videos. Here at bimos.be in Brussels Belgium we have everything and we'll fix your computers.

  • Yes I'm another unlucky fellow with the same issue, The TX1250EA has been getting very hot recently, and I suspect it's the heat that's finally killed it.

First symptoms were an occasional beep from the speakers, then sometimes it would just freeze, particularly when the screen went into Screensaver mode. Also an occasional BSOD, which was never encountered till about a month ago.

Now I get a black screen but lots of blue lights, rather like a fancy cup warmer.

It was two years old and used daily so I can't really complain. I bought a TX2 about a year ago.... the first one wouldn't work with my expresscard modem, the second one kept getting checksum errors. Finally got a working one last month. Just in time as I was considering jumping out of my 34th floor window if I had to hear that sodding HP call hold music again...

To summarise, I was a fan of HP, but laptops take a battering and are a nuisance when they fail so get one that has a good reputation amonst punters, which is difficult as they rarely stay in the shops for more than six months!

  • I’m amused by how easy it was getting a new laptop
What doe work is over heating it. roll it up in a thick blanket with the power cord plugged in, then start it up and wait about 30-45 mins, then take it out turn it off and back on, it will start up... my friend gave me this non working hp tx1000 (1308Ca) that had a black screen i been using it since beginning january after this little overheat trick and doesn't have any issues other then the gpu temp can get over 120*C(243F) and the wireless works sometimes when it's starting up hot.
this trick worked aswell with my friends xbox 360 that got a ROD =) give it a try if like me you had nothing to lose
**Edit** after doing this procedure get a thin fan to place under the air intake it will keep the overheating problem away get a 12V long lasting battery or 8x1.5V Rechargeable batteries to plug your fan on the go and a 12V dc adaptater so you don't waste the batteries near a plug.

  • "Screen is black but all the lights are on and won't boot?" I'm having the same problem as what's being described: won't boot, lights are all on but nothing happens and a black screen.

    HERE'S MY SIMPLE FIX:
    (HP TX1000)

1 - hold the power button to the right for about 5 seconds. The bios setting will shut everything off.
2 - push power button and then tap the "delete" key (upper right) continuously until the boot splash screen comes up and it will continue to boot to your login or desktop. You may have to repeat this entire process on occassion but I've never had to do it more than twice to get it to boot up without issue.
*note that when the splash screen first comes up you can hit F10 to go into the bios and check the boot order etc

This is a pain in the ass whether you hit shutdown or restart you have to do it but it works and otherwise the notebook works fine (but run hot as hell). Me thinks it has to do with a fugged up hibernate/sleep mode function and probably some sort of bios tempurature alarm auto shutdown. The bios is weak and has little to no adjustments.

  • Go to Youtube and watch the video about fixing the TX1000 yourself. You have to remove the motherboard, locate the Nvidia chip and heat the chip from the solder side with a hair dryer, light bulb or as I do, use a heat gun. While the chip's solder is hot, use a piece of wood or a gloved finger and apply pressure to the chip. This will,in effect, re-solder the chip which has loosened due to the poor cooling design of this computer.I have had to do this 3 times myself this year.
    PS
Make a diagram of the screw positions so you can put them back in the correct holes ! I use Scotch Tape and stick each screw to the diagram. Works for me.
    Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctHTF3...

    Good luck

A settlement of a class action lawsuit (The NVIDIA GPU Litigation, Case No. 08-cv-04312-JW) relates to the NVIDIA chips inside certain Dell, Hewlett-Packard (“HP”), and Apple notebook computers. The lawsuit claims that NVIDIA sold defective Graphics Processing Units (“GPU”) and Media and Communications Processors (“MCP”) that affected the performance of some of the notebook computers in which they were incorporated. NVIDIA denies all allegations of wrongdoing and has asserted many defenses. The settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing.
