I am the developer of Instacast, a popular podcast client for iOS and from time to time I get the request to add an Instapaper like save option for individual podcast episodes. Hence I thought I could add support for HuffDuffer, however I need a way to add new items programmatically. On the API page I can only see calls to get item lists. There is no login or add call. Is this information available anywhere?
EMPLOYEEI’m excited but scared0Hi Martin,
It would be *great* to get Huffduffer integrated with Instacast!
Alas, as you point out, right now the API is read-only.
There is a way (on the web) to huffduff a file (sort of) by simply linking to /add/referrer from a page with an audio file(s). Obviously that's not much help for an iOS app.
So I guess I need to figure out an OAuth-style authentication mechanism. I've never done that before and I fear my meagre programming skills may not be up to it, but I'll give it my best shot.
I'll keep you updated on progress.
I don't know what web technologies you use, but I did this for a project earlier this year using Ruby on Rails and it was fairly simple. I used 2 plugins: oauth-plugin and restful_authentication. In order to get Twitter-style XAuth to work, I had to patch it bit. Works great so far. If you need more info, let me know.
