Greetings,

I attempted to add Series and Episode Title links to several images that were already in the database on actors' pages. The following contributions were rejected as "badly formatted":
  • #181118-011925-689802
  • #181118-011731-667102
  • #181118-011418-037202
  • #181117-231223-118102
By comparison, the following (submitted around the same time) were approved:
  • #181118-012333-260002
  • #181118-012730-918002
And then these, which had the name additions approved, but the titles declined:
  • #181118-012608-425102
  • #181118-013847-728102
For the life of me, I can't tell why some items were approved and some were not. Can you help me understand, so I don't make the same mistakes again?

Thanks!

Hi Malik,

There are a number of factors which can lead to a rejection of an image, or a title or name link. Primarily in this case it looks like the images you uploaded aren't of the best quality as there is noticeable pixelation or noise, though this can be subjective and dependent on the particular image at hand. Please see this guide for more details.

I would recommend sourcing a better quality version of the image and try uploading that one instead. I hope this helps.

Regards,
Will

Hi Will,

Thanks for replying. I didn't actually upload any of the images in question. I was just editing the tags of several images that were already uploaded to actors' pages. Are there different standards for images depending on where they are going to appear? For example, is an actor allowed to upload lower quality images to their own page, but the same image would not be allowed on the movie or tv show page?

Still unclear....

Thanks,
Malik

Hi, Malik. In my experience, what you've described seems exactly to be the situation.

Hi Malik -

To clarify a bit further, we do have separate guidelines for Resume images (IMDbPro users can upload images to their own pages) verses user image uploads (users can upload images to title pages).
So if an actor uploads images through their Resume Account, and the quality is questionable, we will accept them, but if the image is reported we may reach out to them and request better quality images.  For title images, we are stricter concerning the quality, as per the guide Will mentioned above, please review the section under "Image quality" for additional information on what we consider to be acceptable quality.

Thanks, Michelle. I suspected this after seeing Will's response. The guide didn't help me in this specific situation, because it doesn't address the difference in acceptable quality. When I saw images already uploaded, I surmised they had already passed the quality test.

I'll keep closer watch on the quality of the images I tag from now on.
