I am getting REALLY tired of ads on the IMDb main page that suddenly overlay the workable area (where the clickable links are) just when I'm going to click something to get some information. This kind of intrusive advertising is unacceptable. If advertising is that important, just make it an advertising site promoting big-budget films, and let someone else provide a site that people can use for information. Don't you realise that, like advertisements in movie theatres, intrusive advertising is counterproductive? Many people just tune out and go elsewhere to get the information they want.

I wonder if IMDb staff have expressed any opinion (pro or con)
on the use of blockers?

They've always been quick to respond in that way. I also agreed with you that they should not want to, and generally don't, use ads that block view of content or make features unusable.
