I recently "replaced" the poster of my feature film.  However, the old version of the poster has remained in my files for everyone to view (right next to the new one).  I assumed that the old one would disappear entirely.  Can anyone help me get rid of the old poster?

Once again, I am trying to get rid of my old poster, but I cannot figure out how to do it. Can someone please help me?  I "replaced" my old poster on my movie's main page, but the old one still remains.  I would like it to go away.  Thanks!  Please remove the one with the sketch of Edgar Allan Poe.  Keep the new one in black and pastels with the professor smoking in his chair.  Thanks.

The 'replacement' refers to the function of the picture as the primary poster which shows on the title page and beside the title in filmographies,   not to the picture itself.

Many people wish to maintain the original poster in the Title gallery even though they want a new one to be used as the Primary poster. Since they have paid for both posters, IMDb will maintain the old version in the gallery unless a specific request for deletion is made.

When I replace a part on my car, I usually don't keep the old one.  They sometimes ask me if I want to keep the old one, but usually they just dispose of it for me.

Perhaps you mean "add" a new poster, not "replace" the poster? This is far from clear on the request page.  In the FAQ, it says that one needs to put a direct request into the "notes" if you want to dispose of the old poster.  This seems counter intuitive to say the least.  Shouldn't you put into the notes the desire to keep the old poster because "replacing" means "removal, disposal, and adding a new one"?

My goal here is not to clean up IMDB's language, but merely to get rid of my old poster without another fee.  These constant fees add up and make the whole experience bitter.

Adding/deleting is a completely different activity from choosing which is the main image to be displayed.

Since they were paid for, IMDb usually does not just removed them at all. Most people would complain if they paid to display an image but IMDb keeps deleting them. The person who paid for it, therefore, needs to specifically request any removal.

With car parts, the old is usually replaced with a new, working part. The car wouldn't run by having two of the same part still attached. They're going to assume the part that no longer works won't be needed. So, this is a copletely different situation from adding photos to an IMDb page where the assumption should be opposite...that I want to keep what I pay for, unless I express a desire to remove it.

Surely there is a better word than "replace", right? My assumption is that film makers would, in general, want only one poster for the main page.  Perhaps I am wrong on that assumption.

I appreciate all the replies.  They are helpful.

If they're meaning, in the huge majority of cases, that you can choose one of the, say five photos you've purchased the right to display, to be the one shown as the main photo, then move the one already there to the gallery below, then probably not. It is pretty much, in that case, the best word to describe the action. The rights to display them have been purchased.  So, to remove one, the person has to clearly state the request to remove it completely.

I can't think of any examples but there are many, many pages with more than one image.  In many cases, I'd bet they development alternates for different marketing purposes or for releases in different locations.  So, they surely might want to list them all and at some point change what is the main one displayed.

(To Jeanne Young:
This is none of my business, but I noticed that your issue is apparently not yet resolved?  Apparently the two old posters are still present in the tt4215172 gallery at this time?)

Hello Michelle, I would like the old poster removed  from our Imdb page here:  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2862288/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

I uploaded the new one, but it remained listed as a "Photo".
This is the one we would like to be the poster of the film:  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2862288/mediaviewer/rm701963520

I would like the old poster removed entirely.

Can you please help?

Many thanks,
Jennifer Corcoran

If you are the person resoponsible for a specific Title or Titles, you should apply for a free IMDb Scorecard account.  I am not sure about deleting posters (especially those that were paid for) but it definetly allows you to select the Primary Image for the selected Title(s).
