I think a "Seen It" button that would add movies to your check-in list or a new "Seen It" list would be a great feature. I think it would be most useful on the "Recommended For You" page and on list pages beside the "Add To Watchlist" button.

This is the thread that Vitaliy Kulkov mentioned:
https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/_seen_it_button

FYI: IMDb  is testing out a seen feature that applies to any IMDb title list.
IMDb Seen Feature
http://www.imdb.com/board/bd0000040/nest/236059182
Please see the thread for details.

This feature works from ANY title list. Just change "list" to "seen" in the URL.
So you can go through lists like these...

If you click to the right of the star, you can either indicate that you seen the film without rating it or rate the film.

Examples:

IMDb Top 250 2013
http://www.imdb.com/seen/ls059100407/

IMDb Top 250 2012
http://www.imdb.com/seen/ls059100236/

How many of these $1B movies have you seen?

Movies about Movies?

Classic Halloween Films:

Top Time Travel Films

These are based on some of my out of date title lists.

All Films that have Appeared on the IMDb Top 250

IMDb Top 1000 that have never Appeared in the IMDb Top 250

Top Ranked Films by Year

Here an example of the way the feature currently works:

We are (as Dan mentions) testing the "Seen It" concept. If it succeeds on imdb.com, expect to see some variation of this in the iOS and Android apps as well.

I would really like that, because as it is the only way to mark that I've seen it is to find it in a list somewhere, instead of having the option directly on the item's info page. I've made a list called 'movies I've watched', but it's not global to every part of imdb, which would make it much more useful to look at an item's page and say 'yep, seen that', or have it show as seen in a list without having to have already found it on a list and checked that box.

i think that IMDB use your score for film as seen it. so, put points from 1 to 10 as marked ))

I don't usually rate movies, because the star system is really subjective to me, I just want to be able to tell if I've watched it without checking to see if it's on my list

i see your point. from my side, i rate films for my self - so later i can review and suggest movies to my friends .
what do you think about 'check in' feature, is it usefull for you?

I suppose, but if it's a location sort of thing, like when people check in to places on facebook or whatever, then not so much, I don't go to the theater often, and watch most of my movies on netflix. If I can use it regardless of whether it's in a theater or not, I imagine it would work well enough, I just think a nice simple little box to check like the stars on the lists would do fine.

I agree with Elisabeth on all points. In addition to the 'add to watchlist', there should be  an 'add to seen list' or a 'move to seen list' when you have seen a movie that was previously in your watchlist.
Maybe next to the green tick create a similar button that serves for this purpose.

rating is not for everyone as well, i hate it. I already feel that the imdb star ratings are not something i fully go by because its viewer reviewed (but of course the option to rate would still be available). Plus i am not a critical person when it comes to movies and just like to know i have seen them.
The list should also be influential on out 'recommended' movies.
I have 300+ movies in my watchlist because i don't like removing items and then forgetting that i've seen them.
My recommended films are often way off or something i have already seen, i have better luck finding a film I have already seen and checking the 'if you've seen this you may like..' options.

Simplicity is key

I fully agree with this and then each user could have a list of all 'seen' films with a total at the top or something of the sort. Great idea I really hope they take this on.
