The Lion King (1994) rips off the christmassy anime family television series Kimba the White Lion (1965-1967).

Those are loaded terms that would likely get IMDb sued so I doubt it will happen.

But it is true that The Lion King rips off Kimba the White Lion.

Not really. The president of the company that produced Kimba had this to say: "Quite a few staff of our company saw a preview of “The Lion King,” discussed this subject and came to the conclusion that you cannot avoid having these similarities as long as you use animals as characters and try to draw images out of them."

If the Japanese company didn't think there was enough to sue over, then yeah, there really isn't anything there.

The story lines are quite different with The Lion King owing more to Hamlet than anything. There are some shared visuals but that is inevitable with similar animals.

But there are other ripoffs too. There's A Bug's Life (1998) which rips off Antz (1998), Happy, the Littlest Bunny (1994) which rips off The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends (1992-1995), Family Guy (1999-) which rips off The Simpsons (1989-) and Star Wars which rips off Star Trek.
