Adding Roman numerals

There are two entries for the name, Zequinha de Abreu,

They appear to be two distinct people, as one died in 1935 and the the other is credited as a composer for a short film in 2012.

I have attempted to add Roman numerals to the names to distinguish them.

The first one worked and an update was created.
Ref. No.:170829-024908-910000

However, when I attempt to edit the second entry, I am told that 'This correction has no effect'.

Can anyone explain what is happening?

Graham,

I believe there are two issues to consider.

First, the last name and how it is stored on the IMDb.

The late composer is stored incorrectly as:

Abreu, Zequinha de

The other name page is stored correctly as:

de Abreu, Zequinha

Second, I strongly suspect that the title listed for the sole name credit is actually a work from that same composer, not a new commission from a person with the same name.

The title, CELAC, un sonido para el mundo (2012) is a short documentary about a youth orchestra performing at the ceremony of the creation of CELAC, Community of Latin American and Caribbean States. (Link for trailer). Unfortunately, I'm unable to locate the film to verify the orchestral work. It's entirely possible that a work composed by de Abreu was performed many years after his passing.

For now, I would suggest waiting for the update that you submitted to process. Afterwards, consider merging the page with the incorrect last name into the page with the correct one.

This is just my suggestion. Perhaps an IMDb representative can assist you on this matter.

Thanks for posting this information.

Hi Graham -

I can now confirm that the roman numerals have been added to the name listings, see here.  The pages are now distinctively separate, however, if you find that the composer credit for "CELAC, un sonido para el mundo" does belong to the same "Zequinha de Abreu", let us know and we can then combine the pages.  Cheers!

I also believe it is most likely that
"the title listed for the sole name credit is actually a work from that same composer, not a new commission from a person with the same name. "

A search of the web (Google) only turns up one person with the name, Zequinha de Abreu.

However, I am not brave enough to merge the names without more evidence.

I would also guess that the musical piece in CELAC, un sonido para el mundo (2012) is likely to be 'Tico-Tico no fubá', his most famous piece.

Attempts to identify the piece have proved fruitless. Most webpages that have mentions of the film are in Spanish (beyond my ken) and even a glance at these does not reveal the name nor appear to give any details of the musical piece(s) used in the film
