How do I add soundtrack credits to my profile? I am unable to find "soundtracks" anywhere in music or sound categories, even though it tells me in both categories to use "Soundtracks" when adding music with titles. where is it?

Soundtrack credits have to be added via the Title pages, rather than via the Name pages.

Very specific formatting is required when submitting Soundtrack entries if you want the credit to be linked back to a Name page. The formatting requirements are detailed here - http://www.imdb.com/updates/guide/sou...

Im not sure I understand yet, so whom ever edits the actual film page, needs to add soundtrack credits? I am not able to add them from my personal page where i list my other film credits? is that correct?

Basically that's correct, except that you can submit the credits to the film page yourself.

Hello all, Id like to revive this post if I may. I see that the owner of the film page has actually added my credits under Soundtrack, but this doesn't show up on my personal IMDB page. How can I add it to my page? The author of the film has gracously added it to the film already so I assumed it would link?

N.A.I.: If you look at a soundtrack page in the database such as http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0146882/soundtrack, you will see that many of the songwriters' and performers' names shown there are linked to their pages, but not all of them are. Only the ones that are linked have those soundtrack credits appear on their own name pages.

Presumably on the film soundtrack page you are talking about, your own name is not currently a link there either.

The way you get the name to be linked is to surround the person's primary name  as listed by IMDb (including roman numeral, if any) with single quote marks and follow it by (qv).

For example, Frank Sinatra would be
'Frank Sinatra' (qv)
and Michael Jackson would be
'Michael Jackson (I)' (qv)
when listed on a soundtrack page.

More examples can be found in the soundtrack guide at http://www.imdb.com/updates/guide/soundtracks.

If you need further assistance, please post here what your name is and what film soundtrack you are trying to get your name linked for.

(By the way, it's not really the "owner of the film page" or the "author of the film" who gets all the soundtrack and other credits listed. Credits can be submitted by any IMDb user -- regardless of whether they are the producer of the film, a cast or crew member of the film, or just someone who watched the film or even just read about it -- and then they are added by the IMDb staff in response to those data submissions.)

Good luck!

Thanks! OK so just to make sure I understand, I would edit the soundtrack listing and choose to correct the credit, once I have it in edit mode, I would change where my name says:
James "Roz" Rosnack

I would change this to say
'James Rosnack' (qv)

and it will search for "James Rosnack" and presumably find it and link my profile? My profile name is just "James Rosnack" so I am assuming I would have to write it specifically this way yes?

I appreciate your help!

James: There is one other issue I would note, since you were credited in the movie by a version of your name that is not the same as your primary IMDb name (that is, the movie credits include a nickname too).

You should list yourself in the Soundtrack section as follows:
'James Rosnack' (qv) (as James "Roz" Rosnack)

The (as ...) parenthetical is used after the (qv) to indicate that your name as credited on screen does not match your primary IMDb name.

Good luck!

(Bumping this older thread)

Just wanted to ask that are the "soundtrack guidelines" from this thread still valid? Meaning how to add soundtrack credits for both the TV episode and for the filmography of the composer at the same time?

Eboy: There hasn't been a change in the process since this thread started in 2013, as far as I know.

If a composer has a song on the soundtrack of a TV episode, you can go to the episode page, click "Edit page", and follow the process to add the song and its credits to the episode soundtrack page.

And if that composer already has an IMDb name page with their filmography listed, you can use the 'qv' notation discussed above to get that soundtrack credit listed on their filmography page. If the composer doesn't have an IMDb name page yet, just list their name in plain type with no notation around it, because the 'qv' notation only works if the person already has an IMDb name page.

Not sure if anyone is looking at this thread anymore.  This has all been helpful, but I'm wondering if anyone knows how to create a soundtrack/composer profile?  I have a number of unlinked (because I don't have a profile) credits on various shows and movies, but would like to create a profile, so they can all be listed together.  Please help!  The basic create a profile page hasn't been helpful for me.  if I just add a "(qv)" next to my credits, will it create a page for me?

Shane: See the last paragraph of my previous comment.

The (qv) function on the Soundtrack page will only work if the person already has an IMDb name page.

And a person can get an IMDb name page from having a credit in any other IMDb department -- like Composer or Music Department or Actor or Actress or Costume Department or Special Effects -- but not from having only Soundtrack credits.

So if you have a proper credit to list outside the Soundtrack section, you should submit that to the appropriate film or TV show's page. That should get you an IMDb name page, which is what you were hoping for, and then you can edit your Soundtrack credits to add the (qv)'s as needed.

By the way, in case you are wondering what kinds of credits qualify as Composer or Music Department rather than Soundtrack ...
  • Composer credits typically say something like "Music by", "Composed by", or "Score by".
  • Music Department credits are for any other non-Composer music-related credits that are not associated with a particular song or composition title.
  • Soundtrack credits are always associated with particular song or composition titles.
I hope this helps. Good luck!
