This conversation has been merged. Please reference the main conversation: ATS: Export advanced title search results to a list

  1. Provide an easy way to add ATS search results to a list. Maybe use a captcha to confirm it's not an automated spammer.
  2. ATS should show creator's title comments/descriptions from list on detailed search results. (Remember we can apply ATS url to lists not our own.)
  3. ATS sort option of List Order so we can see the position number in a compact list of 250 again.
  4. Provide OR and NOT functionality. Ex: Genre Music OR Musical. Lists Checkins OR Watchlist. Genre Music, NOT Western. Even if it's just a URL hack.

#4: In particular, for Sound Mix, it would be helpful to have a "Not Silent" checkbox, so that if any Sound Mix other than Silent is listed on the film, the film would appear in the search results.

Wanted to point out some research documented on another thread:
https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/keywords-talk-and-talking?topic-reply-list[settings][filter_...
and my reply follows directly under it.

The bottom line: although the contribution guide says that Silent films should be coded with Language None, only 286 titles out of 128k+ titles released before 1928 have that tag.

(Contrast that with 126k+ of pre-'28 titles have Sound Mix Silent. I assure you it should be about 2000 more. But because we don't have a query function to select those without Silent and examine them, we'll never know. 273 have Sound Mix Mono. Do others have Vitaphone? Cinephone? Chronophone? etc. And when done with the list of Sound Mix options, how do we select -none-?)

It would be nice if you could right-click the Search button to display the results in a new Tab while leaving the criteria selection page in place.

In addition, it would be helpful to have a link back from the search results for Advanced Title Search (ATS) to the ATS page with the options selected for that search.

It would also helpful to have a link back from the search results for Advanced Name Search (ANS) to the ANS page with the options selected for that search.

My interpretation of
In addition, it would be helpful to have a link back from the search results for Advanced Title Search (ATS) to the ATS page with the options selected for that search.
is that if you Bookmarked a search, and opened the results page, you could click on the proposed link back to ATS with the criteria already populated from the URL, so you can revise the search. THAT would be VERY useful!

New #6:
Navigation on the ATS page is very cumbersome, Scrolling past large fields, missing the small ones in between.

I would suggest either
  • 2 frames, the left for navigation among the criteria, the right for selecting the details of the criteria. Or, if 2 frames doesn't agree with mobile design,
  • model the page after the way Credits are listed on Name pages, but with no default cluster of criteria opened unless it's based on your own usage.

I personally prefer:
model the page after the way Credits are listed on Name pages, but with no default cluster of criteria opened unless it's based on your own usage.

So long as the clusters are well-organized, and contain a reasonable number of criteria. I wouldn't want a separate tap for each criterion.

The problem with this approach is that when you come BACK to the ATS screen to adjust your search, these clusters would need to be open (or lit up somehow) so you see what you already selected.

With a 2-frame approach, both frames scrollable, what you selected would already be visible. Maybe the navigation frame should be on top instead of on the left. But it would have to be stacked really tightly, and organized extra well, perhaps so well that it need NOT be scrollable.

[Edited to add:] BTW, my intent for the Navigation frame is just to take you to the exact location (within the 2nd frame) on the page already displayed, not to take you to a fresh page for each criteria/cluster. I was just on a secondary Title page, where the links to other secondary title pages is in the right column, Since those take you to Other Pages, I wanted to clarify my meaning above. (And that column is not what I mean by a separate frame, because it doesn't scroll independently from the main body of the page.)
