The most frequent, it seems, answer to "Share an Idea" posts seems to be, "You can already do this with "Advanced Title Search." It was this way, for years, on the old Help Board also. Many users, some having been active for many years, do not even know advanced search exists when it's the most valuable tool available to users looking for types of movies or specific movies. It might be nice to call the current search field on each page something like "Simple Search" or "Quick Search," then add a link next to the box for "Complex Search" or even use its name, "Advanced Search," which would be a quick link to the advanced search tools. Or use a dropdown menu for "Advanced Title Search," "Advanced Name Search," etc.

I'd bet it's severely underused.

bluesmanSF, I've considered suggesting advertising features on IMDb, a kind of "Spotlight on IMDb" or "Find out More About IMDb". Each of these advertisements would be short statement on the main pain, such as "Find out More about Advanced Search" with an article written by an IMDb staff member or a knowledgeable user.

FYI:
"main pain" should be "main page"

IMDb already has the "Editors' Spotlight" (http://www.imdb.com/sections/spotlight/) on the main page. Expanding this to include highlighting IMDb's capabilities seems like a natural extension.
