There is a recently released Indian film VISHWAROOPAM (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2199711/c...) which had over 20,000 user votes some weeks back. But then the votes page suddenly went blank. Please restore the correct number of votes.

The votes are all there:

There has been concerned raised over vote-stuffing, but I'm unsure if that is part of the official response to that or part of the reference/combined view problems people were reporting (although I thought that was fixed).

yeah i reported it to IMDb for vote-stuffing...with the rating it currently has, it would be the Number 1 movie in the IMDb Top250.

I just posted another thread on the same topic. Even if it was by mistake, I still have this concern: why is this done only for this film and not any American films? Are voters for Indian films the only ones who take part in vote-stuffing? (rhetorical question) I never saw the main pages for Inception or TDKR missing the number of votes.

That answer is not satisfactory. As it stands now, you're censoring the movie from any advanced search involcing ratings and any toplist. You could deal with TDK, you can deal with this. Show the rating!

Only 26% of the voters for Vishwaroopam (2013) have supplied demographic information. In contrast, 63% of the voters for TDKR have supplied demographics information. Lack of demographic information is a strong indicator that new or infrequent voters are disproportionately represented.

Since a large portion of the votes are likely to be from new or infrequent voters, Vishwaroopam (2013) would probably not meet the 25,000 vote threshold for including it in the IMDb Top 250. Even if all of the votes were from regular users, the weighted rating (WR) would only be 8.3. This would give it a rank of around 75.

The formula for calculating the Top Rated 250 Titles gives a true Bayesian estimate:
weighted rating (WR) = (v ÷ (v+m)) × R + (m ÷ (v+m)) × C where:
•R = average for the movie (mean) = (Rating)
•v = number of votes for the movie = (votes)
•m = minimum votes required to be listed in the Top 250 (currently 25000)
•C = the mean vote across the whole report (currently 7.1)
for the Top 250, only votes from regular voters are considered.
